CFMOTO celebrated a remarkable weekend at the 2026 Dutch MotoGP Grand Prix, with Max Quiles and David Alonso both standing on the top step of the podium after thrilling races at the iconic TT Circuit Assen. The double victory further strengthens CFMOTO’s championship ambitions in both the Moto3 and Moto2 classes.
Quiles continued his exceptional Moto3 campaign by claiming his sixth victory of the season, while teammate Marco Morelli completed a successful outing with a third-place finish. In Moto2, David Alonso delivered a dramatic last-lap overtake to secure his first win of the 2026 season by just 0.024 seconds.

Quiles Claims Pole Position Before Dominant Moto3 Victory
The CFMOTO Aspar Moto3 squad showed impressive pace throughout the weekend. Both Quiles and Morelli consistently featured among the frontrunners during practice, with qualifying proving particularly successful.
Quiles secured his third pole position of the season, timing his final flying lap perfectly to top the timesheets. Morelli also impressed by qualifying fourth, giving CFMOTO one of its strongest qualifying performances of the year.
When the lights went out for the 20-lap Moto3 race, a fierce battle quickly developed among a large lead group. As tyre wear began to take effect, the fight for victory narrowed to five riders, with both CFMOTO racers remaining firmly in contention.
With three laps remaining, Quiles made his move. The Spaniard broke away from the chasing pack and maintained his advantage to the chequered flag, defeating David Almansa for his sixth victory of the campaign.
The win also marked Quiles’ ninth podium finish in the opening ten rounds, extending his championship lead to an impressive 90 points.
Meanwhile, Morelli produced a strong comeback after overcoming front-end chatter midway through the race to secure third place, helping CFMOTO Aspar strengthen its lead in the Moto3 Teams Championship.

Max Quiles Delighted to Win at Historic Assen
Quiles described the victory as one of the most memorable of his career.
“It’s always special to win here and I’m very happy with the race. I felt comfortable from the beginning and saved my energy for the end. When I saw the riders behind were struggling, I pushed harder and managed to create a gap. Assen is such a historic circuit, and I’ve always dreamed of winning here.”
Morelli was equally pleased after adapting his riding style during the race to overcome handling issues.
“It was a super difficult race. I started well, which was important because our recent starts haven’t been great. Midway through the race I experienced a lot of chatter at the front, but after changing my riding style I found my rhythm again. Finishing on the podium feels incredible.”

Alonso Edges Dramatic Moto2 Battle
Following disappointment at the previous round in Brno, where victory slipped away on the final corner, David Alonso bounced back in spectacular fashion at Assen.
The Colombian carried strong momentum throughout the weekend, topping Friday’s practice sessions before securing his second consecutive Moto2 pole position.
Teammate Daniel Holgado also qualified strongly in fifth, putting both CFMOTO Aspar riders in contention for another successful race.
Cooler conditions on race day created ideal racing conditions, and Alonso remained among the leaders throughout the 22-lap contest. Holgado also ran inside the top five before receiving a Long Lap Penalty for exceeding track limits, eventually crossing the line in sixth place.
Up front, Alonso became involved in an intense three-rider fight for victory. On the final lap, he produced a stunning move around the outside of Manuel Gonzalez at the final chicane to snatch victory by just 0.024 seconds, earning his maiden Moto2 win of the season.
The result lifts Alonso to fourth in the Moto2 World Championship standings, while Holgado sits sixth. CFMOTO Aspar Azul Marino also strengthened its position by remaining second in the Moto2 Teams Championship.

Alonso: “I Still Don’t Know How I Won”
An emotional Alonso admitted the victory exceeded all expectations after a challenging start to the season.
“I cannot believe it. I’ve been fighting all season and never imagined winning here at Assen. I pushed from the very first day and wanted to enjoy the weekend while giving everything for the team and everyone who supports me.”
Reflecting on the closing stages, he added:
“I tried to break away but realised it wasn’t possible. The final two laps felt like a Moto3 race, and I loved every second of it. I made the move at the last corner, and honestly, I still don’t know how I managed to win.”
With victories in both Moto3 and Moto2, CFMOTO leaves Assen with renewed momentum as the championship battle heads into the second half of the 2026 MotoGP season.
