Marco Bezzecchi produced a masterclass performance at Mugello to claim a memorable home victory at the 2026 Italian Grand Prix, leading an Aprilia Racing 1-2 finish ahead of teammate Jorge Martin.
The Italian rider delighted the passionate Mugello crowd with a flawless ride aboard the Aprilia RS-GP, extending his lead in the MotoGP World Championship standings while delivering one of the biggest victories of his career.
Starting from pole position, Bezzecchi made a strong launch but briefly lost the lead to Martin at Turn 1. However, the championship leader quickly responded and reclaimed the position before the opening lap was completed.

Bezzechi stated: “The win in Mugello was fantastic – a dream that I’ve had since childhood. I used to always come here with my father, my mother, and my sisters to see MotoGP, and I dreamed of being there someday. Over time, that dream became a desire to win right here. Winning in Mugello was an indescribable emotion, as well as seeing all the fans and the team happy and emotional.”
While the Italian rider settled into the lead, Ducati Lenovo Team rider Francesco Bagnaia began making his move through the field. The three-time Mugello winner climbed into second place before taking the race lead on Lap 3, raising hopes of another home victory for Ducati.
For much of the first half of the race, Bagnaia and Bezzecchi traded strong lap times at the front while Martin remained within striking distance in third place.
Behind them, an intense battle unfolded involving Marc Marquez, Pedro Acosta, Fermin Aldeguer, Ai Ogura and Fabio Di Giannantonio, with positions constantly changing throughout the race.

The turning point came with 10 laps remaining when Bezzecchi launched a decisive move on Bagnaia into Turn 1. Once back in front, the Italian immediately pulled away, opening nearly a one-second advantage and proving untouchable for the remainder of the race.
As Bezzecchi escaped at the front, Martin also found his rhythm and overtook Bagnaia on Lap 16 to secure second place. The Spaniard then attempted to close the gap to his Aprilia teammate, but Bezzecchi remained firmly in control.
The battle for the final podium position provided late drama as rookie sensation Ai Ogura rapidly closed in on Bagnaia during the closing laps. The Japanese rider launched an attack at the final corner on the last lap, but Bagnaia responded immediately and won the sprint to the finish line by just 0.034 seconds to secure third place.
Bezzecchi crossed the line comfortably ahead of Martin, completing a historic 1-2 result for Aprilia on home soil and sending the Mugello crowd into celebration.

Ogura ultimately finished fourth after another impressive comeback ride from 13th on the grid, while Di Giannantonio rounded out the top five.
Pedro Acosta finished sixth after an eventful race, followed by reigning world champion Marc Marquez in seventh during his return from shoulder surgery. Raul Fernandez recovered from an opening-lap mistake to finish eighth, ahead of Fermin Aldeguer and Honda LCR rider Diogo Moreira, who completed the top ten.

The victory further strengthened Bezzecchi’s championship challenge, with the Italian now holding a 17-point advantage over teammate Martin in the standings.
For Aprilia, the result marks one of the team’s greatest achievements in MotoGP, securing a dominant home 1-2 finish at one of the most iconic circuits on the calendar.
MotoGP action now shifts to Hungary, where Bezzecchi will look to continue his impressive form and further extend his championship lead.
