Honda is continuing its push to make big-capacity motorcycles more approachable with the expansion of its innovative Honda E-Clutch technology to three additional models in Malaysia. Following its debut on the Honda CBR650R and CB650R, Boon Siew Honda has officially introduced Honda E-Clutch on the Honda NX500, Honda CB750 and Honda Transalp.
The latest expansion aims to make manual motorcycles easier to ride without sacrificing the engagement that riders love. Whether you’re an experienced rider looking for smoother gear changes, someone upgrading to a larger motorcycle, or a beginner who wants extra confidence on the road, Honda E-Clutch is designed to enhance the riding experience.
What Is Honda E-Clutch?
Honda E-Clutch is an electronic clutch control system that automatically manages clutch operation during starts, stops and gear changes. Unlike a conventional automatic transmission, it still allows riders to shift gears manually using the foot gear lever, preserving the traditional motorcycle riding experience.
The system automatically operates the clutch while riders continue selecting gears as they normally would. This creates faster and smoother shifts while reducing rider workload, especially in traffic or during frequent stop-and-go riding.
Unlike Honda’s Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT), Honda E-Clutch does not change gears automatically. Instead, it simply controls clutch engagement and disengagement, allowing riders to enjoy manual gear selection without constantly operating the clutch lever.
One of the biggest advantages is that the clutch lever remains fully functional. Riders can pull the lever whenever they want for complete manual control, and the E-Clutch system temporarily disengages. Those who prefer riding traditionally can also switch the system off entirely through the motorcycle’s TFT display.
Designed to Enhance, Not Replace, Manual Riding
Honda emphasises that E-Clutch is not intended to replace the manual riding experience but to improve it.
The system intelligently manages clutch engagement, including a “half-clutch” function that minimises shift shock during gear changes. The result is smoother acceleration, more seamless downshifts and improved rider comfort without taking away the involvement of changing gears manually.
For experienced riders, the technology also provides automatic throttle blipping during downshifts on compatible models, making sporty riding smoother and more controlled.

Giving Experienced Riders More Performance
While Honda E-Clutch makes motorcycles easier to ride, it also offers clear benefits for seasoned riders.
Compared to a traditional quick shifter, Honda says the system delivers faster and more precise gear changes while reducing drivetrain shock. Riders can enjoy smoother transitions between gears, allowing them to focus more on cornering, acceleration and overall riding enjoyment.
Whether riding through twisty roads, touring long distances or commuting daily, the system helps create a more refined riding experience without removing rider involvement.
Making Bigger Bikes Less Intimidating
Moving from a smaller motorcycle to a middleweight or large-capacity bike can be intimidating for many riders.
Larger motorcycles often come with heavier clutches, stronger power delivery and the constant fear of stalling, especially when stopping on hills or navigating heavy traffic.
Honda E-Clutch removes much of that anxiety by automatically managing clutch operation during take-off and stopping. Riders no longer need to worry about balancing throttle and clutch perfectly every time they move off.
This allows those upgrading to a bigger motorcycle to focus on improving their riding skills and enjoying the bike rather than worrying about clutch control.

Easier Everyday Riding for New Riders and Commuters
Honda E-Clutch is also aimed at beginners and daily commuters.
New riders often struggle with clutch control during their first few months of riding, especially when starting from traffic lights or riding on inclines. By eliminating the possibility of stalling due to incorrect clutch operation, the system allows beginners to concentrate on throttle control, braking and road awareness.
For commuters, constantly operating the clutch lever in heavy traffic can quickly become tiring. Honda E-Clutch significantly reduces hand fatigue, making daily rides more comfortable while still retaining the feel of riding a manual motorcycle.
Better Control for Adventure Riding
Adventure riders can also benefit from Honda E-Clutch.
During aggressive downshifts, the system acts similarly to a slipper clutch by reducing rear-wheel hop, improving stability when entering corners or descending steep terrain.
On loose gravel or off-road surfaces, Honda E-Clutch also allows smoother upshifts even when the rear wheel is spinning, helping riders maintain momentum and focus on terrain rather than clutch operation.

Honda NX500 with Honda E-Clutch
The Honda NX500 becomes the latest middleweight adventure crossover to receive the new technology.
Powered by a 471cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine, the motorcycle produces 37kW of power and 45Nm of torque. It also features Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) to improve rear-wheel traction.
With a kerb weight of 199kg and an 830mm seat height, the NX500 is designed to offer a balance between everyday practicality, touring comfort and light off-road capability.
The model will be available in:
- Pearl Horizon White
- Matte Gunpowder Black Metallic
Recommended showroom price: RM34,099

Honda CB750 with Honda E-Clutch
The Honda CB750 becomes the first Honda motorcycle to combine Honda E-Clutch with Throttle By Wire (TBW) technology.
Power comes from a 755cc parallel-twin engine producing 67.5kW and 75Nm, paired with Showa 41mm SFF-BP USD front forks and Pro-Link rear suspension.
Thanks to TBW, riders can choose between five riding modes:
- SPORT
- STANDARD
- RAIN
- USER 1
- USER 2
The motorcycle also features adjustable Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC), Wheelie Control and Engine Braking settings, allowing riders to tailor performance according to road conditions.
The CB750 will be available in:
- Gold Finch Yellow
Recommended showroom price: RM44,999

Honda Transalp with Honda E-Clutch
Honda’s adventure-focused Transalp also joins the growing E-Clutch lineup.
Powered by the same 755cc Unicam parallel-twin engine, it produces 67.5kW and 75Nm while combining long-distance comfort with genuine off-road capability.
Its Throttle By Wire system offers six riding modes:
- SPORT
- STANDARD
- RAIN
- GRAVEL
- USER 1
- USER 2
For the 2026 model year, the Transalp also receives updated Showa 43mm SFF-CATM USD forks and a rear shock with both compression and rebound damping adjustment for improved adaptability across different terrains.
When paired with E-Clutch, the system can automatically perform throttle blipping during downshifts while also helping reduce rear-wheel hop under hard braking.
The Honda Transalp with Honda E-Clutch will be offered in:
- Ross White
- Pearl Deep Mud Grey
Price: To be announced.
Honda Wants More Riders to Experience Big Bikes
According to Kunitomo Asano, Managing Director and CEO of Boon Siew Honda, the goal of Honda E-Clutch is to make riding easier while maintaining the excitement of operating a manual motorcycle.
By reducing the effort required to operate the clutch without removing rider control, Honda hopes more riders will feel confident stepping into the world of larger motorcycles.
The company believes expanding E-Clutch across more models will allow a wider range of riders, from beginners to experienced enthusiasts, to enjoy motorcycling with greater confidence, comfort and control.

Availability in Malaysia
The Honda NX500 and Honda CB750 equipped with Honda E-Clutch are now available at authorised Honda BigWing dealerships across Malaysia.
Meanwhile, the Honda Transalp with Honda E-Clutch is expected to arrive in December 2026.
All three motorcycles come with a two-year or 20,000km manufacturer’s warranty, whichever comes first.
Owners can also manage their ownership experience through the Honda X web application, which provides access to service records, maintenance reminders and warranty information.
