Alex Rins has confirmed he will leave Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP at the end of the 2026 season, bringing an end to a partnership that struggled to deliver consistent results.
The announcement was made during the Spanish Grand Prix weekend at Circuito de Jerez – Ángel Nieto, following weeks of speculation surrounding the rider market.
Rins revealed that he became aware of the decision indirectly after discussions with Yamaha team management, including Massimo Meregalli. According to the Spaniard, indications were given that the team had already identified a replacement for the future, with rising talent Ai Ogura among the names linked to the seat.
The move signals a key shift in Yamaha’s long-term strategy as the manufacturer looks to rebuild its competitiveness in MotoGP.

Challenging Stint with Yamaha
Rins joined Yamaha with strong expectations following successful spells with Suzuki and Honda. However, adapting to Yamaha’s machine proved difficult, particularly due to the characteristics of its inline-four engine, which limited his ability to consistently perform at the front.
Although the introduction of a V4 engine project offered hope for improvement, the overall package failed to deliver the level of performance required to compete regularly for podiums.

Focus Remains on MotoGP Future
Despite the setback, Rins remains committed to continuing his career in MotoGP. The Spaniard has expressed his desire to stay in the premier class beyond 2026, ruling out a move to other championships such as WorldSBK for now.
As the rider market begins to take shape for 2027, several opportunities could emerge in the coming months.
Yamaha Planning Ahead
Yamaha is already looking ahead to its future lineup, with reports suggesting a potential pairing of Jorge Martin and Ai Ogura for the 2027 season.
With Rins’ departure now confirmed, attention will turn to how Yamaha reshapes its squad as it aims to return to the front of the grid.
