Miguel Oliveira Extends BMW WorldSBK Contract Until 2029

The Portuguese rider will remain with the ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team after securing a new deal covering 2027 and beyond.

Miguel Oliveira has committed his future to the ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team after signing a new contract that will keep him with BMW through 2029.

The Portuguese rider, who made the switch from MotoGP to the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK) this season, will continue racing the BMW M 1000 RR as he targets more podium finishes and his first WorldSBK victory.

Oliveira enjoyed a successful MotoGP career, securing five Grand Prix victories, all of them with KTM. One of his most memorable wins came at his home Portuguese Grand Prix in Portimao.

However, at the end of the 2025 MotoGP season, the #88 rider found himself without a seat in the premier class and moved to WorldSBK with BMW.

The German manufacturer entered the 2026 season as the reigning WorldSBK manufacturer, having enjoyed championship success in 2024 and 2025 with Toprak Razgatlioglu.

Four Podiums in His Debut WorldSBK Season

Oliveira’s first WorldSBK season has been a mixture of strong performances and setbacks.

His campaign got off to a difficult start in Australia after a crash during the Tissot Superpole session. However, he bounced back strongly at his home round in Portimao, securing podium finishes in all three races.

He returned to the podium in Race 1 at Balaton Park, but another crash in the Tissot Superpole Race resulted in an injury that forced him to miss the rounds at Most and Aragon.

Oliveira eventually returned to action at Misano and has so far collected four podium finishes with BMW.

With the final third of the 2026 season still to come, the Portuguese rider will be looking to add more podiums to his tally and finally secure his maiden WorldSBK victory.

Oliveira’s Story With BMW Continues Until 2029

The new contract gives Oliveira long-term stability as he continues to develop with BMW and the ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team.

Oliveira confirmed the length of his new deal through a post on Instagram, simply stating: “The story continues until 2029.”

The agreement also gives BMW more time to rebuild its WorldSBK project around Oliveira as the manufacturer looks to return to the level of competitiveness it showed during Razgatlioglu’s championship-winning campaigns.

Speaking about his contract extension, Oliveira said: “Throughout my career, I’ve learned that success is built on the courage to embrace new challenges and the commitment to keep evolving.

“Extending my journey with BMW Motorrad Motorsport and ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team is a reflection of the trust we’ve built together and of our shared ambition for the future.

“I understand the responsibility that comes with representing such an iconic brand, and I’m fully committed to giving everything on and off the track to help us achieve our goals.

“We’ve laid the foundations this season, but I believe the best is still ahead of us. I’m excited to continue this journey together and to keep building something we can all be proud of.

“I want to thank all the staff at BMW Motorrad and all the guys in the team for trusting in me. Let’s get to work!”

BMW Confident in Oliveira’s Potential

BMW Motorrad Motorsport Head Sven Blusch said the manufacturer was pleased with how quickly Oliveira adapted to WorldSBK after making the move from MotoGP.

According to Blusch, Oliveira has already become an important part of the BMW project both on and off the track.

“We are delighted to continue our partnership with Miguel over the coming years. Following his move from MotoGP, he settled into our WorldSBK project very quickly and has become an important part of our team, both on and off the track.

“We enjoyed a very successful start to the 2026 season together, and already at his second race weekend on the BMW M 1000 RR in Portimao, he finished on the podium in all three races.

“His injury following an unavoidable crash was, of course, a setback, but we are convinced that we can achieve great things together this season and in the years to come.”
