KTM has returned to the road-legal, fully faired supersport segment with the launch of the 2026 KTM 990 RC R in Malaysia, priced at RM113,000, excluding road tax, insurance and registration.
Distributed locally by Eurotech Group (ETG), the new supersport motorcycle arrives after almost a decade without a comparable large-capacity, fully faired road bike in KTM’s lineup. It also marks the brand’s return to the segment previously represented by models such as the KTM RC8.
Inspired by the KTM RC16 MotoGP race bike, the 990 RC R combines aggressive aerodynamic bodywork with a race-focused chassis, adjustable suspension and an extensive electronics package. Despite its track-oriented design, the motorcycle remains road-legal.

Power comes from KTM’s LC8c 947cc liquid-cooled, DOHC parallel-twin engine, delivering 128PS at 9,500rpm and 103Nm of torque at 6,750rpm. The engine is paired with a six-speed transmission and complies with Euro 5+ emissions standards.
Unlike the 75-degree LC8 V-twin engine that powered RC8, the 990 RC R adopts a parallel-twin configuration based on the same engine architecture used in the KTM 990 Duke, with specific tuning for its supersport application.
Aerodynamic winglets are integrated into the bodywork to generate downforce at speed, while the overall design also manages airflow and engine cooling. The motorcycle is equipped with a 48mm WP APEX open-cartridge upside-down front fork offering 147mm of travel, alongside a WP APEX rear shock with 134mm of travel. Both suspension units offer extensive adjustment to suit different riding conditions.

Braking is handled by twin 320mm front discs with radial-mounted, four-piston Brembo HyPure callipers and a 240mm rear disc. The 990 RC R rides on 17-inch cast aluminium wheels fitted with Michelin Power Cup 2 tyres, measuring 120/70 ZR17 at the front and 180/55 ZR17 at the rear.
The electronics package includes Rain, Street, Sport and Custom riding modes. Depending on the market specification, optional Track and Tech packages add further functions, including launch control, anti-wheelie control, lap timing, telemetry displays and adjustable traction control. The Tech package also includes features such as cruise control, a quickshifter and motor slip regulation.

For maintenance, KTM has extended the valve clearance inspection interval to 30,000km, compared with the previous 15,000km interval. The 2026 KTM 990 RC R is available in Malaysia in two colour options: Electronic Orange, also known as KTM Orange, and Black Metallic, or KTM Black.
With its combination of 128PS output, MotoGP-inspired aerodynamics and track-focused hardware, the KTM 990 RC R brings a new option to Malaysia’s premium supersport segment at RM113,000.
