Ai Ogura Ruled Out of Misano MotoGP as Injury Recovery Continues

The Trackhouse rider will miss his second consecutive Grand Prix after doctors advised him not to race at Misano, with a potential return now targeted for Austria.

Ai Ogura will miss this weekend’s Red Bull Grand Prix of San Marino and the Rimini Riviera as he continues to recover from a left-hand injury suffered during motocross training in Japan.

The SuperFile Trackhouse MotoGP Team confirmed that Ogura will not return to action at Misano after medical advice determined that he has not yet recovered sufficiently to race.

The Japanese rider suffered the injury while training after the British Grand Prix and underwent surgery shortly afterwards with renowned surgeon Xavier Mir. The injury forced him to miss the Aragon Grand Prix, where Lorenzo Savadori stepped in as his replacement at short notice.

Ogura had been hoping to make his return at Misano following a week of rehabilitation. An X-ray and medical assessment were carried out in Barcelona on Tuesday to determine whether he would be fit to ride this weekend.

However, doctors advised the 25-year-old against returning to competition, meaning he will miss his second consecutive MotoGP round.

Trackhouse to Run One Rider at Misano

With Savadori unavailable this weekend, Trackhouse will enter the San Marino GP with Raul Fernandez as its only rider. The team confirmed that its Aprilia factory test rider, who replaced Ogura at Aragon, is unable to step in again at Misano.

“For the second race weekend in succession, the SuperFile Trackhouse MotoGP team will go into the race weekend without Ai Ogura,” Trackhouse said in a statement.

“After surgery just ahead of Aragon and hopes that a week of rehabilitation treatment on his injured left thumb would have allowed him to ride at Misano, the latest medical advice following an assessment in Barcelona late Tuesday is that he is not yet sufficiently healed to ride.”

Ogura will remain in Barcelona to continue his recovery and rehabilitation, with the team now targeting a return at next week’s Austrian Grand Prix.

Championship Challenge Takes Another Hit

Ogura’s continued absence is a significant setback to his MotoGP championship campaign. The Trackhouse rider is already 53 points behind championship leader Jorge Martin, and missing another Grand Prix will give him even fewer opportunities to close the gap as the season enters its later stages.

For now, Ogura’s priority is to regain full fitness rather than risk returning before his injured hand has sufficiently healed. “Ogura will remain in Barcelona, focusing on efforts to regain fitness ahead of the Grand Prix of Austria, one week away,” Trackhouse added.

If his recovery progresses as planned, Ogura could make his return at the Austrian GP and resume his championship fight.
