In a thrilling final lap at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, Enea Bastianini overtook Jorge Martin to clinch a controversial victory, while defending champion Francesco Bagnaia suffered a crucial crash with seven laps to go.
Bastianini’s daring manoeuvre on the last lap not only delivered his second victory of the season but also marked Ducati’s 100th win in the premier class, placing the Italian manufacturer alongside Honda, Yamaha, and MV Agusta in achieving this milestone.
Despite being surpassed by Bastianini at the race’s climax, Martin’s second-place finish propelled him 24 points clear at the top of the standings. Meanwhile, Ducati celebrated securing the constructors’ title for the fifth consecutive year, well ahead of the season’s conclusion.
The race initially saw Martin take an early lead, only to be overtaken by Bagnaia, who then faced challenges that saw him momentarily regain the lead with a series of fast laps before his unfortunate exit from the race.
Marc Marquez finished third, benefiting from Bagnaia’s misfortune, although this did little to bolster his championship hopes, as he now trails Martin by 60 points and also falls behind Bastianini in the standings.
The excitement continued down the field with VR46’s Marco Bezzecchi securing fourth and Pramac’s Franco Morbidelli rounding out the top five. Notable advancements were made by Aprilia’s Maverick Vinales and Aleix Espargaro, who finished sixth and eighth, respectively, each making significant climbs from lower starting positions.
Yamaha’s sole top-ten finisher, Fabio Quartararo, saw a potential fifth place slip away in the closing stages, finishing seventh. Gresini’s Alex Marquez and Trackhouse’s Miguel Oliveira completed the top ten.
Honda managed to get three riders in the points, but it was a disappointing day for KTM, with early crashes for Brad Binder and Pedro Acosta ensuring they left Misano without points, their best finish being Jack Miller in 16th.
As the MotoGP circuit moves to the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit for the upcoming Indonesian Grand Prix, the stakes continue to rise. With 37 points up for grabs in Lombok, the championship battle remains wide open, setting the stage for an electrifying conclusion to the season.
