The 2026 Catalan Grand Prix is shaping up to become one of the biggest races of the season as the MotoGP title battle between Marco Bezzecchi and Jorge Martin heads to Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya with just a single point separating the two Aprilia teammates.
While the championship fight continues heating up, one major name will be missing from the Barcelona grid. Reigning MotoGP World Champion Marc Marquez has officially been ruled out after undergoing successful surgery following his heavy Sprint race crash during the French Grand Prix at Le Mans.

Martin Arrives With Momentum
The momentum heading into Barcelona clearly belongs to Jorge Martin after the Spaniard delivered a perfect weekend in France.
Martin secured both the Sprint and Grand Prix victories at Le Mans, marking his first Sunday win since the Indonesian Grand Prix in 2024 and sending a strong warning to the rest of the grid that he is firmly back in the title fight.
The Aprilia rider will also receive strong support from the Catalan crowd this weekend, especially at the circuit where he secured his MotoGP world title back in 2024.
Despite Martin’s recent dominance, Bezzecchi still holds the championship lead, although by the narrowest possible margin. The Italian has remained remarkably consistent throughout the season, finishing inside the top four in every Grand Prix so far.

Acosta, Di Giannantonio and Ogura Continue Chasing
Behind the Aprilia duo, Fabio Di Giannantonio continues to lead Ducati’s independent charge after another strong performance in France.
The VR46 rider currently sits ahead of Pedro Acosta by just one point after overtaking the KTM star on the final lap at Le Mans in a move that has already sparked a growing rivalry between the pair.
Meanwhile, Ai Ogura arrives in Barcelona full of confidence after securing his maiden MotoGP podium at Le Mans. The Trackhouse Aprilia rider became the first Japanese rider since 2012 to finish on a MotoGP podium and now sits fifth in the championship standings.

Ducati Looking to Bounce Back
At Ducati Lenovo Team, Francesco Bagnaia heads into Barcelona determined to recover from his disappointing French GP crash.
Despite the DNF, Bagnaia showed strong pace throughout the Le Mans weekend by securing pole position and remaining among the fastest riders before the accident. Barcelona could also prove a favourable circuit for the Italian, who enjoyed success there during the 2024 season.
Another Ducati rider hoping for a stronger weekend is Alex Marquez, who crashed out in France after previously winning at Jerez. Racing on home soil, the Spaniard is expected to be among the front-runners once again.

KTM, Yamaha and Honda Searching for More
Enea Bastianini continues showing signs of improvement for Red Bull KTM Tech3 after recording three consecutive Sunday top-eight finishes. His teammate Maverick Vinales also returns to action this weekend following his injury layoff.
At Yamaha, Fabio Quartararo delivered his strongest weekend of the season in France with double top-six finishes and now hopes to continue that momentum in Barcelona, a circuit where he has previously enjoyed success.
Honda meanwhile continues searching for consistency despite showing flashes of competitiveness in recent rounds. Joan Mir suffered another crash in France, while Johann Zarco and Luca Marini managed points finishes after difficult weekends.
With just one point separating Bezzecchi and Martin heading into Barcelona, the 2026 MotoGP championship battle now looks more intense than ever as the European leg of the season continues.
