The concept of buying and selling is certainly not something new. It has become a lifestyle that has been practiced since ancient times.  However, there will be times when the buying and selling process will turn into a nightmare if not done carefully, and buying and selling motorcycles is no exception.

In the current motorcycle market, there are many fraudulent tactics that are often used by irresponsible individuals. These tactics are not only used by sellers, but also by irresponsible buyers.  Therefore, it is very important to be more cautious when buying and selling motorcycles, especially with individuals we don’t know. Here are 5 tips that you can follow when selling a motorcycle.

1. Don’t Rush The Deal

One tip that can be followed is to not rush the deal. Sometimes we feel like we want to deal as quickly as possible so we don’t have to think about it anymore. However, making a deal too quickly can sometimes lead to trouble for the seller.

If the buyer seems too insistent about making a motorcycle purchase or wants to keep transferring money little by little, this is one of the warning signs that you need to take seriously.

Sometimes these “buyers” have a trick up their sleeve. They will try to give us excuses or try to gain our sympathy to get us to agree to do a deal as soon as possible.

Therefore, it is important to first check the buyer’s purpose for selling the motorcycle and check the buyer’s background if possible to ensure we do not fall for any of scammers’ trickery.

2. Choose a Safe Meeting Place

When you have a potential buyer, they usually want to see the motorcycle in person to check the actual condition of the motorcycle.

This is normal because sometimes the condition of a motorcycle cannot be fully seen through photos alone. By seeing the motorcycle in person, buyers will feel more confident before making a decision. However, keep in mind that you will be meeting strangers. We do not know their background or true intentions.

Therefore, choose a safe location to meet, such as a public area with lots of people. If possible, meet during the day and avoid locations that are too quiet. It is better if you come with a friend or family member for extra security. This step is important to avoid unwanted things like fraud or motorcycle theft.

3. No Full Payment, No Motorcycle

After both parties agree on the price offered, the next step is the payment process and delivery of the motorcycle. However, never hand over the motorcycle before the full payment has been received. Even if the buyer makes various promises or excuses, make sure the money has actually been recieved.

There are cases where buyers only pay a small deposit before taking the motorcycle away without settling the remaining payment. More worryingly, there are also cases where buyers simply disappear after taking the motorcycle without making any payment.

Therefore, always ensure that the full payment has been received and confirmed before handing over the keys or motorcycle to the buyer.

4. Save Buyer Information and Details

Throughout the buying and selling process, make sure you save important buyer information. Information that can be saved includes phone numbers, and pictures of ID cards.

This step is important as a precaution in case of any problems arising in the future. In addition, a screenshot of the conversation between you and the buyer can also be used as evidence in case of a misunderstanding or if the buyer tries to twist the story after the deal is completed.

There is no need to be shy about asking for buyer information as it is normal for the safety of both parties. If the buyer seems hesitant to provide basic information or tries to evade it, you need to be more careful before proceeding with the deal.

5. Perform Transfer of Ownership Immediately

After payment is complete and the motorcycle has been handed over to the buyer, don’t forget to carry out the transfer of ownership process as soon as possible.

Many people overlook this and put off the ownership transfer process because they are busy or don’t have time. However, as long as the motorcycle is still in your name, all risks are still your responsibility.

If a summon, accident or any other traffic offense occurs before the transfer of ownership process is completed, you may be involved. Therefore, it is better to complete the transfer of ownership process immediately so that both parties do not face problems in the future.

Conclusion

The process of buying and selling a motorcycle does have its own risks. It is certainly something that cannot be avoided, but it can be dealt with by being a knowledgeable individual to deal with this problem. Make sure you become a smarter seller and always be vigilant so that your experience when buying and selling a motorbike is not affected.
