MotoMini Malaysia has come up with a major update for the 2026 season when it introduced a team-based concept, a strategic move in an effort to increase the level of professionalism in mini motorcycle racing in the country.
This change is seen as an important evolution in the development of young riders, where they now not only compete individually, but also under a more structured and competitive team structure.
Two main categories with development championship support
For the 2026 season, MotoMini Malaysia features two main categories, namely MotoMini 160 and MotoMini 190. Both categories are also supported by development championships such as the SIC Ohvale Junior Championship and the RCB MotoKidz Championship.
However, only riders from the MotoMini 160, MotoMini 190 and SIC Ohvale Junior Championship categories are allowed to be combined in the same team. The RCB MotoKidz Championship category remains a separate category.

The troop structure is more structured and professional
Through this new format, each team is required to have a minimum of 2 riders and a maximum of 4 riders, and must be officially registered under the Malaysian Motor Sports Association (MAM).
This move not only streamlines the participation structure, but also ensures that each team operates legally and professionally, in line with competitive racing standards at the international level.
In addition, MotoMini Malaysia is also introducing the Team Best Award, which will be given to the team with the highest overall points tally throughout the season.
Wider branding and commercial support opportunities
One of the main advantages of this team concept is the opening up of wider commercial opportunities. Each team can now display sponsor logos on their bikes, pit tents, as well as official team clothing.
This indirectly provides space for young racers to understand the role of sponsors in the world of racing, while also helping to cover the costs of participation throughout the season.
Parties interested in sponsoring racers or teams can contact the racers directly or contact the organizers via email at [email protected] .
From individual format to team ecosystem
Since its introduction in Malaysia in 2020, MotoMini has previously used an individual participation format. However, starting from the 2026 season, the format will shift completely to a team system, in line with the more competitive and professional global racing landscape.
While these changes place emphasis on team structure and branding, the technical and operational aspects of the race remain handled by the organizers to ensure uniformity and fair competition.

Zulfahmi: Positive step for the development of young riders
According to Championship Manager, Zulfahmi Khairuddin, the introduction of this concept is a very positive development for the country’s motorsport.
“The introduction of the team concept in MotoMini Malaysia is a very positive development. It not only increases the level of professionalism among young racers, but also provides early exposure to the real atmosphere of racing at the international level.”
He also explained that the main changes are in terms of branding and team structure, while the technical aspects remain the same as before.
“I believe this approach will add great value to the development of riders, not only in terms of performance on the circuit, but also in terms of teamwork, discipline and understanding of the role of sponsors in building their careers.”
With the introduction of this team format, MotoMini Malaysia 2026 is seen as a big step forward in producing a generation of young racers who are better prepared to compete at a higher level.
