A practical electric workhorse designed for urban riding, fast charging, and everyday reliability in Malaysian conditions.

Malaysia’s EV motorcycle scene is slowly gaining momentum, and one of the more interesting entries comes from MODENAS with the launch of its MEV lineup at Malaysia Autoshow 2025. Alongside the more lifestyle-focused MEV-1 Pro SX, there’s another model aimed at a completely different crowd, the Modenas MEV-2.

Unlike its sibling, the MEV-2 isn’t trying to look premium or flashy. It’s built with one clear purpose, to work. This is a purpose-built electric delivery moped designed for urban commercial use, and that’s obvious from the moment you see it.

I had the chance to test this together with the MEV-1 Pro SX during the same week, just to understand how different these two EVs really are in real-world use. And honestly, they serve very different roles.

Modenas MEV-2

What is the MEV-2 All About?

The MEV-2 is based on the VMoto VS2 CITI platform, which already has a proven track record overseas. That means this isn’t some experimental product, it’s a refined machine adapted for Malaysian roads and daily usage.

From the design alone, you can tell practicality comes first. The build feels solid, the structure supports cargo well, and everything about it is made for long hours on the road. It’s not stylish, but it’s not meant to be. This is a bike for people who rely on their machine to get work done.

Modenas MEV-2

Performance and Electric Setup

Powering the MEV-2 is a 4.0 kW electric motor, which is more than enough for city riding and delivery tasks. It’s not a fast machine, but with a top speed of around 80 km/h, it keeps up with urban traffic comfortably.

Like most EVs, the power delivery is instant. Twist the throttle and it moves off immediately, which is extremely useful in stop-and-go traffic where you’re constantly accelerating and slowing down.

One of the biggest highlights here is the removable 2.2 kWh battery. Charging is quick and convenient, supporting fast charging up to 6.6 kW, which allows a full charge in around 30 minutes. That’s a huge advantage for delivery riders who can’t afford long downtime.

On a full charge, it offers around 107 km to 110 km of range, which is more than enough for daily city operations or short-distance logistics.

Modenas MEV-2

Built for Work and Daily Use

On the road, the MEV-2 feels stable and predictable. The chassis is clearly built to handle extra weight, whether it’s delivery boxes or cargo. Even with load or a pillion, it still feels balanced and planted, which adds confidence.

One feature I really like is the reverse gear. It sounds simple, but in tight spaces or when carrying heavy loads, it becomes incredibly useful. Instead of pushing the bike manually, just engage reverse and move out easily. Honestly, this is one of my favourite features on this EV.

The riding position is upright and comfortable, making it suitable for long working hours. It’s not sporty, but it’s easy on the body, which is exactly what delivery riders need.

Handling is simple and straightforward. It’s not meant for aggressive riding, but in city environments, it does its job well. Filtering through traffic, making quick stops, and navigating tight spaces all feel easy. In fact, it feels slightly more nimble than the MEV-1, likely due to its lighter build.

Modenas MEV-2

Charging and Daily Routine

Living with the MEV-2 is all about simplicity. No fuel stops, just charge and go. With fast charging, even short breaks are enough to top up the battery and get back on the road.

The removable battery adds flexibility too. You can charge it separately if needed, which is useful if you don’t have direct access to a charging point at your parking area. In real use, getting a full charge in under an hour is honestly very impressive.

That said, one limitation is that it’s not built for long-distance or high-speed riding like the MEV-1 Pro SX. The battery system works differently as well, the MEV-2 uses its batteries individually, while the MEV-1 uses both simultaneously. It’s likely designed this way for efficiency and battery management, especially for delivery use.

Modenas MEV-2

Conclusion

So who is the MEV-2 for? Honestly, it feels like a work bike first, but also something anyone can enjoy riding. Around the office, everyone who tried it had fun with it. It’s light, quiet, and easy to handle, almost like a “plug and play” machine.

But realistically, it’s not aimed at enthusiasts or weekend riders. It’s built for efficiency, practicality, and reliability. Priced from RM9,878, it offers an affordable entry into electric mobility, especially for delivery riders or businesses.

When you factor in lower fuel costs, reduced maintenance, and fast charging, it becomes a very practical option for daily work use. At the end of the day, the Modenas MEV-2 isn’t about style or performance. It’s about getting the job done. And in that role, it delivers exactly what it promises.
