The electric motorcycle market in Malaysia is growing rapidly, and Modenas is one of the local brands that is starting to aggressively enter this segment. The two models they have released are the MEV-1 Pro SX and MEV-2.

At first glance, both seem almost the same because they share the same EV bike DNA and modern design. However, if you look deeper, these two models actually have slightly different characters in terms of performance, usability, and user target. This article will help you better understand the differences.

Modenas MEV-1 Pro SX vs Modenas MEV-2

System & Performance

Modenas MEV-1 Pro SX

In terms of performance, the Modenas MEV-1 Pro SX is clearly positioned as the more powerful model in the Modenas EV family. It uses an electric motor with an output of around 6.6 hp and a very high torque of up to 258 Nm, which provides a sense of instant acceleration from a standstill. The power is stored in a twin ATL lithium 60 V 45 Ah battery pack.

In real-world use, the MEV-1 Pro SX is more stable at medium speeds and more confident when carrying loads or navigating hilly roads. A top speed of around 85 km/h and a range of around 135 km make it more flexible for more serious everyday use, including deliveries or medium-distance commuting.

Modenas MEV-2

As for the MEV-2, it has a slightly lower performance than its older brother. The MEV-2 uses an electric motor with a power of around 5.4 hp, enough for city use, but not designed for heavy loads or high speeds. Power is stored in a twin ATL lithium 74 V 30 Ah battery pack.

The MEV-2 is more focused on efficiency and light use. A maximum speed of around 80 km/h and a range of around 70 km make it more suitable for short trips such as to work or daily errands in the city.

Features & Technology

Modenas MEV-1 Pro SX

The MEV-1 Pro SX comes with a more “industrial” and robust approach. It uses a more advanced motor control system such as a vector controller which helps improve energy efficiency and power control when riding. This makes it more stable when used intensively.

Modenas MEV-2

The MEV-2 is simpler and more user-friendly. The main focus of this model is on ease of daily use, including a removable battery, easy charging process, and a design that is not too complicated. It is suitable for riders who want an EV without having to think too much about complex settings or performance.

Both models are equipped with basic modern EV features such as full LED lights, LCD digital displays, USB ports, riding modes, and CBS braking systems. This makes both well-equipped enough for everyday use without looking overly complex.

Ergonomics & Riding Comfort

Modenas MEV-1 Pro SX

In terms of ergonomics, the MEV-1 Pro SX has a larger size and weighs around 145 kg. This gives it a more “solid” feel when riding, especially at medium speeds and when carrying a load. The riding position is also more upright and stable, suitable for riders who often use the motorcycle for work or longer distances. Furthermore, the MEV-1 Pro SX offers a two-seat configuration, making it more practical if you need to carry a passenger. Its suspension and chassis construction are also more focused on durability than agility.

Modenas MEV-2

The MEV-2 is also much lighter at around 110kg, making it very easy to handle in heavy traffic. It only comes as a single seater, but that actually helps make it more compact and easier to park or maneuver in dense urban areas. For new riders or everyday users, this is a big advantage.

Who is it suitable for?

Modenas MEV-1 Pro SX

The MEV-1 Pro SX is more suitable for riders who need a more powerful and durable EV. This includes delivery riders, users who frequently commute medium distances, or those who want an EV that can handle loads and more aggressive usage.

Modenas MEV-2

The MEV-2 is more suitable for urban users who only need a light and practical vehicle. It is ideal for students, office workers, or anyone who only travels within a short radius and wants low operating costs and ease of use.

Conclusion

Although both fall into the Modenas electric motorcycle category, the MEV-1 Pro SX and MEV-2 have very different focuses. The MEV-1 Pro SX is more of a powerful and flexible “workhorse EV”, while the MEV-2 is more of a lightweight and easy-to-use “urban commuter EV”.

The best choice depends on how you use your motorcycle on a daily basis. If you need power, longer range, and flexibility, the MEV-1 Pro SX is a better fit. But if you just want a simple EV for city use, the MEV-2 is more than enough.
