Sibling rivalry ignites in Termas as Morbidelli fends off Bagnaia to secure a long-awaited Grand Prix podium with Ducati.

Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team) continued his dominant start to the 2025 MotoGP season with a thrilling victory at the Argentine Grand Prix in Termas de Río Hondo. The six-time world champion battled past his younger brother, Alex Marquez (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP), in the closing stages to secure his fourth consecutive win of the season, maintaining his flawless record in both Sprint races and Grands Prix so far.

Marc Marquez started from pole position and initially led the race, but Alex Marquez seized the opportunity to overtake his older brother on lap four. The siblings engaged in a captivating duel, with Marc eventually reclaiming the lead with five laps to go. He then pulled away in the final stages, crossing the finish line 1.5 seconds ahead of Alex.

“The race pace was incredible and a had a few moments in the final laps. Alex pushed me to the limit: we were both able to lap in the low 1’38s, and we really made the different. It wasn’t easy to overtake him, as the only spot was at turn five,” said Marc.

“The first time I tried, I ended up wide, but then I was able to make it stick at the second attempt as I was a lot closer to him. I’m happy for my team as they did an incredible job. We weren’t in such a perfect condition as in Buriram, my riding was not as smooth, but the lap-times came and that’s what matters.”

First podium in 1414 days

Franco Morbidelli (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) claimed his first podium finish since 2021, securing third place after a strong performance. The Italian rider overtook Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) on lap four and held his position until the checkered flag.

“Four years we hung on tight, and it’s an amazing feeling,” he said. “Was great. The team deserves this. We started the season really well, since the beginning of the tests we started working on our weak points and we improved step by step. We still have to get better on some areas, for sure, like the starting position is not what I would like. But anyway, this P3 feels amazing and we’ll take it big time.”

Bagnaia, who started from the second row, had a solid start but struggled to match the pace of the Marquez brothers and Morbidelli. He finished fourth, marking a challenging weekend for the reigning world champion.

Midfield Battles and Drama

Johann Zarco (LCR Honda Castrol) put on an impressive show, hounding Bagnaia for much of the race and showcasing his overtaking skills, particularly at Turn 8. However, Fabio Di Giannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) snatched fifth place from Zarco on the final lap, relegating the Frenchman to sixth.

Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) recovered from a crash in Saturday’s Sprint race to finish seventh, while rookie sensation Ai Ogura (Trackhouse MotoGP Team) initially crossed the line in eighth but was later disqualified for using non-homologated software. This promoted Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) to eighth, with Joan Mir (Honda HRC Castrol) and Luca Marini (Honda HRC Castrol) rounding out the top ten.

With two Sprint races and two Grands Prix completed, Marc Marquez leads the championship with a perfect 74 points. Alex Marquez sits in second place, while Bagnaia is third, 31 points behind the leader. In the teams’ standings, the Ducati Lenovo Team tops the table with 117 points, and Ducati leads the manufacturers’ standings with 74 points.

Looking Ahead to Austin

The MotoGP circus now heads to the Circuit of The Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas, a track where Marc Marquez has historically excelled. With four wins from four starts in 2025, the #93 will be the rider to beat once again. However, rivals like Alex Marquez and Bagnaia will be determined to halt his momentum and close the gap in the championship.
