After the fiasco that was the British GP last weekend, all because the new asphalt made it impossible for motorcycles to race at a wet Silverstone track, Franco Uncini, from the MotoGP Safety Commission, said that the British track might leave the calendar if the situation doesn’t improve next year.
According to Uncini, “Silverstone (management) didn’t warn us of any problems in the months before the race. The cause of the race cancellation was the bad work they did while putting new asphalt on the track. I have no doubt that we won’t return there if the situation doesn’t change. It needs to be repaved in perfect conditions. And because of this case, we will now do exhaustive control tests to the track in the future”.
Franco Uncini guarantees that there will be an investigation to find out the exact cause of the problem that forced the GP cancellation, mainly the difficulty the asphalt had to drain the water from the rain.
There should be an answer to these questions in about six weeks’ time.
