A lot of Malaysian’s choose a motorcycle as their daily mode of transportation, especially in busy city areas. One of the main reasons is because motorcycles are often considered to be faster compared to cars.

Even though both share the same road, motorcycles have it’s own advantages that allows it to reach a destination in a short amount of time. However, the real question is, why riding a motorcycle is the faster option compared to other vehicles?

Size and Mobility Advantage

One of the key factors is the motorcycles small size and easier maneuverability. Unlike cars, motorcycles are able to squeeze through tight spaces and doesn’t need a wide lane. This gives them a huge upper hand especially when dealing with slow or heavy traffic.

With it’s high mobility, motorcycle riders are able to ride in between cars with ease without having to wait for a big gap in between cars.

Lane Splitting In Heavy Traffic

In Malaysia, lane spitting is a common practice for motorcycle riders. Motorcycles are able to move in between stopped or slow moving vehicles, which allows them to have much more efficiency in dealing with traffic jams.

Even though this practice have to be done with safety and high level of focus, it still remains as one of the reasons why motorcycles are able to move faster compared to cars when being in the city or traffic jams on the highway.

Not Really Affected By Traffic On The Road

Cars heavily rely on the flow of traffic. If there is congestion. cars are forced to move slowly or even come to a complete stop. Motorcycles on the other hand still have enough space to maneuver even when being in congested road conditions. This helps to keep the journey duration much more consistent and shorter for motorcycle riders compared to car drivers.

Easy Parking and Less time Wasted

Besides on the road, motorcycles could also save time in terms of parking. Finding a car parking spot in the city would often take a long time, especially during peak hours.

Motorcycles on the other hand are easier to find parking and they often have their own special spot for parking. This helps to save a lot more time once you have reached your destination.

Riding Style Factor

Riding style also plays a crucial role. Motorcycles are often even more responsive and lighter, which helps the rider to speed up and slow down a lot quicker.

However, speed has to be well controlled. Riding aggressively increases the risk of an accident, even though it gives an advantage in terms of time.

Is it Always Faster?

Even though motorcycles often move faster in cities, that does not mean it is always faster in every situation. On a highway with few traffic, a car would be more comfortable and stable for long journeys.

However in the context of Malaysia where traffic jams have become a normality that every driver and rider must face, motorcycles still have the clearer upper hand in terms of travel time.

Conclusion

Motorcycles are the choice for a lot of people because of it’s advantage in dealing with traffic, compact size, and their ability to move flexibly. All of these factors make the motorcycle faster in most daily situations in Malaysia.

However, safety is still a priority. Speed and flexibility that is gained should not be turned into a threat for the rider or oter road users.
