Reigning MotoGP world champion Jorge Martin will be sidelined for the Grand Prix of the Americas, marking his third consecutive absence from the 2025 season. The Aprilia rider, still recovering from a series of injuries sustained earlier this year, admitted he may also miss the fourth round in Qatar as he continues to focus on his rehabilitation.

The 27-year-old Spaniard’s troubles began in February when he fractured his left hand in a training accident, adding to injuries he had already suffered during winter testing at Sepang, where he broke his right hand and left foot. These setbacks forced him to miss the season opener in Thailand and this weekend’s race in Argentina.

Martin joined the Thursday Press Conference at the Argentina Grand Prix via video call from Spain, providing updates on his recovery and a tentative timeline for his return.

“I’m really happy to join you here in the Press conference. Hi to Pecco, Marc, and Alex!” Martin began with his trademark humor. “Here I’m really suffering; it’s not my moment. I’m struggling to recover as fast as I’d like. I can say from here I won’t be in Austin. I would like to be there, but I won’t be racing, and I don’t know if I can do Qatar either—it’s still really early for sure.”

Martin emphasized the importance of a test session before returning to competitive racing, acknowledging that he’s not yet at full fitness. “I’d like to make some sort of test before coming back to racing because I’m not feeling really good, and I know Massimo [Rivola, Aprilia CEO] is working on that. So, let’s see if we can make it possible.”

Despite his absence, Martin remains engaged with the sport, cheering on his Aprilia teammates from afar. “It’s hard to watch from home. I’ll follow this weekend really closely. I’m cheering for Aprilia; hopefully, they can improve a bit more and be closer to that podium. For sure, it’s a bit boring without me on track… but I hope these guys can put on a big show this weekend. I’ll watch from home, and I’m sure I’ll enjoy the race!”

Martin’s absence is a significant blow to Aprilia, which had high hopes for its star rider in the 2025 season. The team will now look to its other riders to step up in his absence, while fans eagerly await Martin’s return to the grid.

As the MotoGP circus heads to Austin, Texas, for the Grand Prix of the Americas, all focus will be on the battle at the front, but the paddock will undoubtedly feel the absence of the reigning champion, whose charisma and talent have become a staple of the sport.

For now, Martin’s focus remains on recovery, with the hope of returning to action sooner rather than later. Until then, the MotoGP world will have to make do without one of its brightest stars.
