Gresini Racing has officially confirmed that Daniel Holgado will make his long-awaited step up to the MotoGP World Championship from the 2027 season, with the young Spaniard joining the Ducati-backed squad alongside former MotoGP world champion Joan Mir.
The announcement marks a significant change for Gresini Racing, which will field a completely new rider pairing in 2027 following the departures of Alex Marquez and Fermin Aldeguer at the end of the current season.
Holgado, 21, has steadily built his reputation as one of Spain’s brightest young talents. After being crowned Moto2 Rookie of the Year in 2025, the Aspar rider claimed two victories during his debut campaign to finish sixth in the championship.
He has continued his impressive form this season with another Grand Prix victory and currently sits sixth in the Moto2 standings, earning himself a promotion to the premier class.

Joining him at Gresini will be 2020 MotoGP World Champion Joan Mir, who will leave Honda at the end of the season after several challenging campaigns aboard the RC213V.
Mir’s move will also see him switch to Ducati machinery for the first time in his MotoGP career, riding a factory-specification Desmosedici GP as Gresini continues its close technical partnership with Ducati Corse.
Gresini Racing Team Owner Nadia Padovani said the new rider pairing reflects the team’s philosophy of combining youth with experience.
“From next year a lot will change, but the essence of the BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP Team will remain the same. We continue to be a team that works to grow season after season, and in 2027 we will do so with two riders in whom we place great trust and whom we are ready to support fully,” she said.
“Dani is a profile we have been following for a long time and we are pleased that he can begin his rookie experience with us. Joan is a MotoGP World Champion, his record speaks for itself. One is at the beginning of his journey, while the other aims to rediscover his best sensations and make the most of his potential.”
Padovani also thanked outgoing riders Alex Marquez and Fermin Aldeguer for their contribution to the team, both on and off the track.
Holgado described the opportunity to race in MotoGP as the fulfilment of a lifelong dream.
“I am very happy to join the MotoGP project of the BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP Team. It is literally the dream of my life to race in the premier class, and doing it with a team like this makes it even better,” he said.
“It is the result of a lot of effort and hard work over the years. I know it will be a huge challenge, but I am ready to grow both as a rider and as a person. I want to thank Nadia, the team, my family and everyone who has believed in me. I know it won’t be an easy journey, but I am fully ready for whatever comes next.”
With Mir bringing championship-winning experience and Holgado representing one of Moto2’s most promising graduates, Gresini Racing heads into MotoGP’s new 2027 regulations with a fresh rider line-up as it looks to remain among Ducati’s leading satellite teams.
