Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) has officially announced the signing of Fabio Quartararo for the 2027 and 2028 MotoGP World Championship seasons, confirming one of the biggest rider moves ahead of MotoGP’s new technical era.

The Frenchman will leave Yamaha at the end of the 2026 season to join the factory Honda HRC squad, where he will spearhead the manufacturer’s campaign as MotoGP transitions to 850cc machinery from 2027.

Quartararo joined the premier class in 2019 after impressing in the FIM CEV Moto3 International Championship and spending four competitive seasons in the Moto3 and Moto2 World Championships.

He made an immediate impact in his rookie MotoGP season, claiming his first pole position in just his fourth race before finishing the year with six pole positions and seven podium finishes, quickly establishing himself as one of the sport’s brightest talents.

The 27-year-old reached the pinnacle of the sport in 2021, when he captured the MotoGP World Championship, before finishing as runner-up the following season.

To date, Quartararo has amassed 11 MotoGP victories, 32 podium finishes, and 21 pole positions, making him one of the most accomplished riders on the current grid.

His arrival comes as Honda continues to rebuild its MotoGP project following several difficult seasons. The Japanese manufacturer has shown encouraging progress after its struggles in 2024, improving from Concession Rank D to Concession Rank C for the 2026 season.

The announcement also follows Honda’s recent confirmation that David Alonso will step up to MotoGP from Moto2 in 2027. However, the Colombian’s team has yet to be announced, with further details on Honda’s 2027 rider line-up expected in the coming months.

Quartararo’s signing is a significant statement of intent from Honda as it prepares for MotoGP’s new era. With the French rider’s experience, proven race-winning ability and world championship pedigree, Honda will be aiming to return to the front of the grid when the new 850cc regulations come into force in 2027.
