Reigning MotoGP champion Jorge Martin’s 2024 season has been marred by a series of unfortunate crashes and injuries, leaving fans and teams alike wondering when the Spanish rider will make his return to the track.

Martin’s troubles began during pre-season testing in Sepang, where a horrific crash resulted in fractures to his left foot and right hand, requiring surgery. Despite showing promising progress in his recovery, Martin suffered another setback just a week before the Thai MotoGP, crashing again and sustaining multiple fractures in his left wrist, including a break to the scaphoid bone—a notoriously slow-healing injury.

Martin underwent a second surgery and is now focused on rehabilitation, but his return date remains unclear. The Spaniard recently made an appearance in Milan for the launch of Aprilia’s new naked bike, the Tuono 457, where he addressed fans via the team’s Instagram Story. Wearing an Aprilia Racing, Martin expressed his determination to return to racing as soon as possible.

“I’m here in Motoplex for the first time, also wearing the t-shirt of Aprilia Racing for the first time,” Martin said. “I’m working hard, it’s been a difficult time, but I’m trying to be back as soon as possible. We don’t know exactly when I will be back, but I will try to do it soon. I hope to see you all really soon.”

While Martin remains optimistic, his absence from the track has left a significant gap in the championship battle. He is confirmed to miss the upcoming round in Argentina, and speculation is growing about whether he will be fit to compete in the third round in Texas, United States.

In the meantime, Ducati’s Marc Marquez has seized the opportunity to dominate the series. The eight-time world champion has been in stellar form, winning both races from pole position at the Thai MotoGP. Marquez now leads the championship by eight points over his brother Alex Marquez and by 14 points over Francesco Bagnaia, further solidifying his status as one of the sport’s all-time greats.

Stay tuned for updates on Martin’s recovery and his anticipated return to MotoGP.
