BMW Motorrad’s Ilya Mikhalchik delivers great performance in Jerez

Both Ilya Mikhalchik and Kenny Foray had guest starts in Jerez last weekend.

BMW Motorrad Motorsport has had a splendid weekend at the 2019 Spanish Superbike Championship. The team made its way to Jerez de la Frontera, in the south of Spain, for the final round of the championship. BMW S 1000 RR riders Ilya Mikhalchik and Kenny Foray were teamed up for the BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team as additional riders. The pair delivered great performances in the tyre tests for tyre partner Dunlop at the season finale.

Ukrainian Ilya Mikhalchik was managed to finish fourth and seventh place in both races. The results mean that Mikhalchik secured victory in the Open class both times. Foray, on the other hand, came in 14th and 12th.

Defending champion Carmelo Morales from BMW easyRace Team also served quality performance. He clinched pole position on his BMW S 1000 RR but crashed at the start of the race. He was then unable to ride for the rest of the race weekend. Teammate Julio Dominguez capped his run at 28th and 21st place respectively. and 17th.

Ilya Mikhalchik (BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team)- As It Happened

“It was more of a test weekend and I was not really racing for results,” said Mikhalchik as quoted from BMW Motorrad.

“The guys here are pretty quick, but I was able to go with them. In the opening race, I was running second for a long time and was able to challenge for the win. We were really quick, but not quick enough to win. However, the focus here was more on testing the tyres for the Endurance World Championship.”

“We were able to get some good development work done and make big progress this weekend. That is very important for our next outing in the FIM EWC in Malaysia. I really enjoyed the weekend and I would be happy to race again in the Spanish championship at some time in the future. Maybe I’ll even be able to go for the win then.”
