Vietnam’s motorcycle market continued its upward trend in the second quarter of the year, demonstrating strong consumer demand despite the country’s ongoing push towards cleaner and more sustainable transportation.
According to the Vietnam Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers (VAMM), the combined sales of its five member companies reached 638,431 units during the second quarter, representing a 4.4% increase compared to the same period last year.
Motorcycle demand remains resilient
The latest figures come as many industry observers believed Vietnam’s motorcycle market had already reached maturity. At the same time, several major cities are introducing measures to reduce dependence on internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles while encouraging the adoption of electric mobility.
Despite these developments, motorcycles continue to play a vital role in daily transportation across the country. The latest sales performance highlights the market’s resilience, even as Vietnam accelerates its transition towards greener transport solutions.
Urban policies support cleaner transportation
Cities such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are actively exploring or implementing policies aimed at reducing vehicle emissions. These initiatives include gradually limiting the use of fossil fuel-powered vehicles while promoting the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs).
Although these policies are expected to reshape the transportation landscape in the coming years, they have yet to significantly reduce motorcycle demand.
Affordability keeps motorcycles popular
Motorcycles remain the preferred mode of transport for many Vietnamese riders due to their affordability, practicality, and convenience. They continue to provide an efficient solution for daily commuting, whether in densely populated cities or rural communities.
As consumer preferences evolve alongside government policies, manufacturers are also adapting their strategies by expanding their product line-ups. Many brands are introducing more electric motorcycles while continuing to develop fuel-efficient petrol-powered models to meet the needs of a changing market.
The latest sales results suggest that, even as Vietnam embraces greener mobility, motorcycles will continue to play a central role in the country’s transportation network for the foreseeable future.
