The third round of the 2024 MAM Malaysia Superbike Championship (MSBK) kicks off today at the PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit with a packed three-day event that promises high-octane excitement for motorsport fans.
Running from Friday, October 11th through Sunday, the event offers a variety of racing categories and will feature the highly anticipated debut of the Ducati China Panigale Cup (DCPC) in this season’s championship calendar.
The weekend begins with free practice sessions today, followed by qualifying and Race 1 on Saturday. Sunday will host the adrenaline-pumping Race 2, with all contested classes putting on a show for both spectators and participants. For local motoring enthusiasts, the race days are a highlight, especially with the introduction of DCPC, a new one-make series that adds an extra layer of excitement to the MSBK.
DCPC, organized through a joint initiative with Two Wheels Motor Racing (TWMR) and SIC, is part of a long-term plan aimed at inclusivity and expanding talent pools within the MSBK. This collaboration is seen as a pivotal step toward attracting more foreign entries and raising the profile of motorsports in Asia.
By introducing a themed track championship like DCPC, the organizers aim to foster greater participation from non-professional and professional riders alike, improving the overall standard of racing within the region.
Launched earlier this year at the Zhuhai International Circuit, DCPC aims to provide a structured yet challenging racing experience for non-professional riders. This track championship features a professional racing format and is designed to equip enthusiasts with the right skills and support for a progressive pathway into the professional ranks.
The Sepang round will see 14 riders on the grid, excluding wildcard entries, marking an important milestone in the development of motorsports in both China and Asia. The debut of the DCPC at Sepang is not only significant for the championship but also for the local riders, as it presents a chance to compete on the international stage and showcase their abilities.
MSBK weekend offers more than just racing, with spectators able to enjoy a variety of side activities around the circuit, adding to the vibrant atmosphere of the event.
With the championship heating up and the introduction of new categories like DCPC, this weekend at Sepang is shaping up to be an exhilarating experience for motorsport fans across the region.
