RXZ Members 8.0: Beyond the Numbers, What Is It Really Like to Be There?

More than 200,000 people turned up for Malaysia’s biggest RXZ gathering, but with record attendance also came growing concerns over road safety. We speak to one participant about the ride, the atmosphere and what could make the next edition safer.

There are motorcycle gatherings, and then there are RXZ Members. For years, the event has become something of an annual pilgrimage for Yamaha RXZ enthusiasts across Malaysia. What started as a gathering for owners of one of the country’s most iconic two-stroke motorcycles has grown into something much bigger, attracting riders, clubs, families, spectators and motorcycle enthusiasts from across the region.

This year’s RXZ Members 8.0 took that popularity to another level. Held over three days at the Terengganu Motor Circuit in Kuala Nerus earlier this month, the event reportedly attracted more than 200,000 participants, according to figures cited by Berita Harian. That number comfortably surpassed the previous record of 160,000 visitors recorded in 2025.

The scale is difficult to ignore. Thousands of motorcycles, especially the iconic 135cc, two-stroke Yamaha RXZs, filled the roads around Terengganu as riders made their way to the highly anticipated gathering. But behind the impressive attendance numbers is another side of the story.

The event was also associated with concerning safety issues, including 46 road accidents and 11 fatalities, marking a sharp increase from just five deaths in 2025 and two in 2024. The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) seized 222 motorcycles for various offences such as modified exhausts, non-compliant registration plates, missing side mirrors, expired licenses, lack of insurance, and underage riding.

These figures raise a tough question: as RXZ Members continues to grow, how can the event maintain its excitement while prioritizing safety?

To understand what it is actually like from the participant’s perspective, iMotorbike News spoke to Adib from Impact Motor Club, who travelled with his entire team from Selangor to Terengganu for RXZ Members 8.0. And for him, the journey itself was already part of the experience.

Their journey started before the event, with a safety briefing in Kampung Bukit Kapar, Selangor, where the group meticulously planned their route, rest stops, and checkpoints. After a prayer, they set off around 10PM, embarking on an overnight ride that lasted until they arrived at their homestay in Terengganu at about 8AM.

For Adib, the trip was about more than just reaching the destination, it was about riding with friends and soaking in the atmosphere along the way. “Seeing Terengganu filled with Yamaha RXZ motorcycles brings back memories of the biking days of the 90s,” Adib shared.

Nostalgia remains the biggest driver behind the event’s success. The Yamaha RXZ isn’t just an old two-stroke; it’s a true Malaysian motoring icon. Watching thousands of them assemble offers a nostalgic flashback to a time when two-stroke smoke filled the streets. Driven by community spirit and modern social media trends, this revival trend is only expected to grow larger from here.

Adib, who made the trip on his Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R, highlighted the inclusive spirit of the event, emphasizing that motorcycles of all makes and models were welcomed with open arms.

So, what does RXZ Members actually feel like when you are standing in the middle of it? According to Adib, there is really only one way to describe it. “Incredibly lively and packed with Yamaha RXZ motorcycles.” For someone who enjoys motorcycles, that alone sounds like quite an experience.

The event featured various activities and attractions, including an RXZ bike show that drew crowds throughout the gathering. For riders like Adib, it was also an opportunity to admire other people’s machines, check out different setups, unique customizations and perhaps pick up a few ideas for their own motorcycles.

Adib also shared that the lucky draw was the undisputed highlight of the event that everyone was waiting for. He added that attendees were holding out hope that luck would be on their side, giving them the chance to drive home a car or bring a special gift home to their family.

It is easy to see why the event has developed such a strong following. This vibrant atmosphere, combined with the camaraderie and shared passion, explains why RXZ Members continues to draw such a massive crowd. But when hundreds of thousands of people and motorcycles converge in one area, there is inevitably another factor that needs serious attention: safety.

The growth of RXZ Members has been impressive, but the increasing attendance also changes the nature of the challenge. Two hundred thousand people is no longer a small motorcycle gathering. It is effectively a large-scale public event involving roads, accommodation, traffic management, enforcement, emergency response and thousands of individual riders making their own decisions. And that is where things become complicated. 

The rise in reported fatalities over the past three editions, from two in 2024, to five in 2025, and 11 in 2026, is something that cannot simply be brushed aside as an unfortunate coincidence.

At the same time, it would also be unfair to suggest that every participant is riding dangerously. With an event of this scale, incidents can involve a combination of individual behavior, traffic conditions, road environments, fatigue, congestion and other factors.

The reality is that the bigger the gathering becomes, the more comprehensive the safety planning needs to be. This is no longer just about putting enforcement officers on the road and hoping everyone follows the rules. It requires a broader event risk management approach, from the moment riders begin their journey until they return home.

So, what could make this RXZ Members safer? As the event continues to grow, several improvements could help reduce the risks associated with such a massive gathering.

Among the suggestions being discussed for future editions are:

• Registration and roadworthiness checks to ensure motorcycles attending are fit for the journey.
• Safe marshal and convoy training for riding groups travelling to the event.
• Enforcement presence at strategic locations, rather than relying solely on enforcement at the event venue.
• A proper Event Risk Management Plan covering traffic, emergencies, crowd control and rider safety.
• A post-event safety audit to identify what worked, what did not, and what needs to be improved before the next gathering.

These measures do not necessarily mean taking away what makes RXZ Members special. If anything, better planning could allow the event to grow while protecting the very community that makes it successful.

Because the truth is, RXZ Members is not necessarily a negative event. With hundreds of thousands of visitors travelling into Terengganu, the gathering can bring significant economic activity to the state and surrounding areas. Hotels, homestays, restaurants, petrol stations, workshops and local businesses can all benefit from the influx of visitors. The challenge is making sure that the economic and cultural benefits do not come at the expense of road safety.

Heading to the next event? Adib believes preparation starts at home. With massive crowds heading to the same destination, securing a homestay or hotel early is essential to avoid last-minute headaches. Mechanical readiness is another top priority. Adib advises all riders, no matter what machine they ride, to thoroughly service their bikes to keep themselves and fellow road users safe.

In conclusion, RXZ Members has become one of Malaysia’s largest motorcycle gatherings, with numbers exceeding 200,000 participants. Yet, behind the impressive figures lies a vital challenge: ensuring that the passion for riding is matched by a commitment to safety.

As the event heads into its next chapter, the focus must be on growing responsibly, so everyone can ride home safely and look forward to doing it all again next year. Because, ultimately, at the end of the day, the best motorcycle gathering is not simply the one with the biggest crowd. It is the one where everyone gets to ride home and come back again next year.
