Motorcycle license holders in Malaysia with Class B2 and B1 licenses can soon upgrade to a Class B Full license, according to the Minister of Transport, Anthony Loke.

Starting from October 1, 2024, eligible applicants can transition their licenses through a special program established by the Ministry of Transport (KPM).

To qualify for the upgrade, B2 and B1 license holders must meet the following conditions:

1. Must hold an active B2 or B1 license for at least 10 years.

2. Must be free from blacklists, unpaid summons, transaction restrictions, serious criminal records, or any unresolved matters under Act 333.

3. Must be physically and mentally healthy, with a self-declaration required.

4. Must pass the transition and adjustment program at a driving school, which includes two hours of practical training. The total fee for this program is RM160 (RM150 to the driving school and RM10 to JPJ).

This new initiative provides a clear pathway for long-time B2 and B1 license holders to advance their riding capabilities and enjoy the benefits of a Class B Full license.

At the same time, Transport Minister Loke also announced that Class B1 licenses will be merged with Class B licenses due to the consistently low demand for B1 licenses each year, as most people prefer Class B licenses.

Consequently, B1 programs will no longer be available at driving schools starting October 1. Once individuals obtain a Class B license, they will be authorized to ride all types of motorcycles, without being restricted to those with a 499cc capacity or below.

Current B1 license holders can either remain in their existing category or choose to participate in the special transition program to upgrade to a Class B license.
