Ivan Ortola continued his impressive run of form by claiming victory in the Moto2 race at the Sachsenring, successfully defending his lead against Daniel Holgado in a thrilling battle until the chequered flag. The victory marks Ortola’s second win in the last three races, while Izan Guevara completed the podium with a valuable third-place finish.
Championship leader Manuel Gonzalez endured a more difficult outing, finishing sixth after struggling to match the pace of the leading group. Meanwhile, David Alonso’s hopes of a strong result came to an abrupt end after crashing out while running in fourth place.
Ortola Makes the Perfect Start
Starting from pole position, Ortola launched off the line to claim the holeshot and immediately took control of the race. Guevara slotted into second after holding off Gonzalez through the opening corners, while Holgado quickly settled into the leading pack.
It proved to be a frustrating opening lap for Gonzalez, who dropped several positions and found himself behind Holgado, teammate Senna Agius, and later Alonso. As the race developed, the front six riders remained closely matched, with Ortola maintaining a narrow advantage over Holgado.

Alonso’s Podium Bid Ends in Heartbreak
The race remained relatively unchanged until Lap 17, when Alonso made an aggressive move past Agius to move into fourth place. However, his charge lasted only one lap.
At Turn 3 on the following lap, the Colombian suffered a high-side crash after losing rear grip, ending his race and dealing a significant blow to his championship ambitions. Fortunately, Alonso escaped the incident without serious injury and was able to walk away from the crash.
Holgado Pushes Hard but Ortola Holds Firm
As the race entered its closing stages, the fight for victory became a two-rider contest between Ortola and Holgado. The Aspar Team rider remained glued to Ortola’s rear wheel, searching for an opportunity to overtake.
Despite constant pressure over the final laps, Holgado was unable to find a way through. Ortola kept his composure and defended every attack before crossing the finish line to secure another important Moto2 victory.

Guevara Secures Important Championship Points
While the battle for the lead unfolded, Guevara rode a consistent race to finish third and collect valuable championship points.
Behind the podium finishers, Senna Agius narrowly held onto fourth place after withstanding a late charge from rookie Taiyo Furusato. The Japanese rider impressed with one of the strongest performances of his Moto2 career, finishing just 0.059 seconds behind Agius in fifth.
Gonzalez crossed the line in sixth, recording his lowest finishing position of the season. Although the result cost him a handful of championship points, the Spaniard still maintains a comfortable advantage at the top of the standings.
Top 10 Finishers at Sachsenring
Filip Salač finished seventh ahead of Jose Antonio Rueda in eighth. Collin Veijer claimed ninth place, while rookie Luca Lunetta rounded out the top ten with another encouraging performance.
Following the German Grand Prix, Gonzalez heads to Silverstone with a 51.5-point lead over Guevara in the Moto2 World Championship, setting the stage for another exciting chapter in the title fight after the summer break.
