Modenas Elit 150S Review: Practical Built for Daily Malaysian Rides

With a long fuel range, smart features and easy handling, the Elit 150S proves that a budget scooter can still deliver real value.

Scooters are easily one of the most practical forms of transportation in Malaysia. Whether it’s for daily commuting, quick errands, or even long-distance rides, scooters just make life easier. They’re simple, fuel-efficient and honestly, quite stylish these days.

With so many options in the market now, especially in the 150cc segment, it can get quite confusing to pick the right one. At the end of the day, it really comes down to what you need and how much you’re willing to spend.

One local contender that’s been getting attention lately is the Modenas Elit 150S. Launched in September last year in conjunction with Modenas’ 30th anniversary, this scooter aims to offer a solid package at an affordable price. It comes in two colour options, Riviera Blue and Quantum Grey, along with a two-year or 20,000 km warranty.

I got my hands on the Riviera Blue unit and spent some time riding it in real Malaysian conditions, from city traffic to open roads, and honestly, it turned out better than expected.

Engine and Everyday Performance

Powering the Elit 150S is a 149cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine paired with a CVT transmission. It produces around 14 hp and 13.5 Nm of torque, which tells you straight away this scooter is not built for aggressive riding, but more towards comfort and practicality.

On the road, the power delivery feels smooth and predictable. It’s not the kind of scooter that will throw you back when you twist the throttle, but it gets the job done without any drama.

For daily commuting, it’s actually quite ideal. Moving off from traffic lights is easy, and maintaining speed in city traffic feels relaxed.

Top speed wise, I managed to hit around 112 km/h, which is already more than enough for Malaysian roads. Some might even push it slightly higher, but realistically, this scooter is more about comfort than chasing speed.

One standout feature here is the fuel tank capacity. With a 12-litre tank and a claimed range of up to 480 km, this is a huge plus. I didn’t even need to refuel throughout my test period, which says a lot about its efficiency.

Comfort and Practical Features

The Elit 150S’s practicality is its true standout feature. You get a large 23-litre underseat storage, which is more than enough to store a helmet or your daily essentials. On top of that, there are additional storage compartments at the front, making it easy to keep smaller items within reach.

There’s also a USB charging port, hazard lights, and a smart key system, which is honestly one of my favourite features. No need to fumble with keys, just hop on and go.

All the basic information is displayed on an LCD panel, and the scooter comes with full LED lighting, giving it a more modern touch.

With a seat height of 770 mm and a weight of 137 kg, the Elit 150S feels very approachable. Riders of all sizes should have no problem getting comfortable on it.

Riding Experience on Malaysian Roads

On the road, the Elit 150S feels light and easy to handle. In heavy traffic, especially around places like KL or busy areas during peak hours, the scooter feels nimble and responsive. It’s easy to weave through cars, and the overall riding experience is stress-free.

Even though the torque is not very aggressive, it’s still sufficient for quick overtakes and lane splitting. The throttle response is smooth, which actually makes it easier to control in tight situations.

Suspension setup consists of telescopic forks at the front and twin shocks at the rear. It handles bumps and uneven roads fairly well, which is important for daily Malaysian riding conditions.

Braking is handled by single discs front and rear. While it does the job, it’s worth noting that ABS is not included, so riders should be a bit more mindful during hard braking, especially in wet conditions.

Value for Money

Well, there’s always talk about brands copying each other in today’s market, especially with more players entering from China and other regions. But at the end of the day, what really matters is what you get for your money.

The Elit 150S focuses on delivering useful features at a competitive price. With a price tag of around RM7,877, it offers a lot of practicality without burning a hole in your wallet.

Verdict

The Modenas Elit 150S is not trying to be the fastest or the most premium scooter out there. Instead, it focuses on what really matters for most riders, practicality, comfort and affordability.

For daily commuting, it ticks all the right boxes. It’s easy to ride, fuel-efficient, and comes with enough features to make everyday use convenient.

If you’re looking for a simple, reliable scooter that can handle Malaysian roads without fuss, the Elit 150S is definitely worth considering.
