Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) Racing Team rider Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah has set his sights on victory in the fifth round of the 2024 Asian Road Racing Championship (ARRC) at Sepang International Circuit (SIC) this weekend.
With just two rounds left in the season, a win is crucial for Hafizh as he aims to secure the top spot in the Asian Superbike 1000cc (ASB 1000) elite class.
However, the 30-year-old rider acknowledges that the challenge won’t be easy, particularly with stiff competition from Indonesia’s Andi Farid Izdihar of Honda Asia-Dream Racing Astemo. Andi currently holds the top position in the championship standings.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Hafizh said, “Our goal is to finish ahead of Andi Farid. The competition between us has been fierce since the start of the season.
Hafizh, racing on home soil, expressed confidence in his knowledge of the Sepang track and is determined to capitalise on that advantage with his Ducati Panigale V4R. “This is my home track, and I will do everything I can to collect maximum points,” he added.
Currently, Hafizh is just six points behind Andi Farid, who sits atop the ASB 1000 standings with 116 points, making this round vital for Hafizh’s championship hopes.
Hafizh also mentioned the boost in motivation he gets from the support of local fans, especially JDT supporters. “I love how JDT fans back their football team, and I’m excited to see how they will support our JDT Racing team here in Sepang,” he said.
