The premium maxi-scooter styling with 155cc VVA engine, spacious riding position and practical storage, is built for riders who want comfort and convenience in every journey.

When you first look at the Yamaha NMAX 155, it is pretty clear that this scooter carries the character of a modern maxi-scooter. The design is clean, premium-looking and not overloaded with aggressive lines.

The sharp LED lights at the front give it a modern and slightly sporty appearance, while the larger bodywork gives the NMAX a more substantial presence compared to a typical small scooter. You can see many riders, especially the Abah-Abah (Dads) going to work riding this scooter, it fits the bill quite nicely.

Premium Maxi-Scooter Styling

The cockpit is also simple and easy to understand. The NMAX comes with a digital meter that displays the important riding information clearly, so there is no need to spend too much time looking down while riding.

For an urban scooter, this is actually quite important because most of the time you are dealing with traffic, junctions, cars changing lanes and plenty of other things happening around you. Having a display that is easy to read means you can get the information you need without taking too much attention away from the road.

The overall design also gives the NMAX a more premium character compared to smaller scooters. The larger bodywork gives it a stronger road presence while still keeping the overall shape neat and modern.

The LED lighting adds to that premium feel, making the NMAX look just as comfortable parked outside a café as it does moving through busy city streets. So if you are the type of rider who considers looks just as important as practicality, there is plenty to like here.

155cc Engine With VVA

Moving on to the engine, the Yamaha NMAX 155 is powered by a 155cc engine with Variable Valve Actuation, or VVA. In everyday riding, the engine feels smooth and easy to manage. The initial pickup is responsive enough, especially when pulling away from traffic lights or moving out from a junction.

When the road opens up and you need to overtake, there is still enough power available to make the move without feeling like the scooter is struggling. It is not the kind of scooter that requires you to constantly push the throttle just to get decent performance.

For riding around Penang, this kind of character makes a lot of sense. If your daily route takes you around George Town, Bayan Lepas or other areas where traffic can get pretty busy, the NMAX feels easy to live with. The automatic transmission is another advantage because you can focus on the throttle, brakes and traffic around you without worrying about clutch control or changing gears every few seconds. When traffic starts moving and stopping repeatedly, that convenience becomes something you really appreciate.

Comfortable For Penang Traffic

One of the biggest highlights of the NMAX is its riding position. As a maxi-scooter, it gives you plenty of space for your feet, allowing you to adjust your position depending on how you are riding. This becomes especially useful when the journey gets longer. You might not notice it much during a quick five or ten-minute ride, but after spending more time on the road, you start to appreciate having enough space to move around and find a comfortable position.

The seat also contributes to the relaxed riding experience. The NMAX allows you to sit in a more natural position compared to motorcycles with a more aggressive riding posture. You do not have to lean too far forward, while the handlebar position feels natural for everyday riding. So when you are riding around town, stopping at traffic lights, moving off again and repeating the process over and over, the scooter does not feel unnecessarily tiring.

For Penang riders dealing with peak-hour traffic, this is where the NMAX makes a lot of sense. Instead of constantly working a clutch and shifting gears, you can simply concentrate on the road and what is happening around you. That is one of the reasons an automatic scooter like the NMAX works so well as a daily commuter.

Plenty of Practical Storage

Another area that matters to most scooter riders is storage, and the NMAX does well in this department. The under-seat storage is spacious enough for everyday items, meaning you do not necessarily need to add a top box just to carry basic belongings. Whether it is a small bag, personal items or something you picked up after work, having that extra space makes everyday riding more convenient.

For riders who use their motorcycle as their main form of transport, practical touches like this can make a noticeable difference. You do not have to worry about hanging too many things from the handlebar or carrying everything on your back. Combined with the automatic transmission, the NMAX feels like a scooter designed around the everyday routine of a rider.

Easy To Handle

In terms of handling, the NMAX feels stable while remaining relatively easy to control. The handlebar and upright riding position give you good control when making turns or changing direction, while the larger body does not make the scooter feel overly difficult to manage around town.

This is important because a maxi-scooter that feels too heavy or awkward at low speeds can become frustrating during daily use. The NMAX strikes a reasonable balance between size and usability. Once you get used to its dimensions, moving through traffic, making U-turns or finding a parking spot does not feel like a major challenge.

Braking Confidence

For braking, the NMAX comes with disc brakes at both the front and rear. In busy urban traffic, having a braking system that gives you confidence is important because things can change very quickly on the road. A car might suddenly change lanes, a vehicle could pull out from a junction or traffic ahead could suddenly slow down.

In situations like these, predictable braking helps the rider feel more in control. It complements the overall character of the NMAX as a scooter that focuses on comfort, stability and everyday usability rather than simply chasing outright performance.

Built For Daily Rides

Another thing that makes the NMAX appealing is its versatility. It can easily serve as your weekday commuter while still being comfortable enough for a relaxed weekend ride. Want to cruise around Penang, look for a new café, go for some food or simply head out without a particular destination in mind? The NMAX suits that kind of riding quite well.

It is not a motorcycle that constantly demands you chase performance. Instead, the NMAX is more about enjoying the journey while having enough space, comfort and practicality to make the ride easier. That relaxed character is probably one of its biggest strengths.

Verdict

Overall, the Yamaha NMAX 155 offers a well-rounded package for riders looking for a premium-looking automatic scooter with a smooth engine and plenty of practicality. It is larger than your typical small scooter, but that extra size comes with benefits such as a more spacious riding position, better comfort and a stronger sense of stability on the road.

Add in the generous under-seat storage and easy-to-use automatic transmission, and the NMAX makes plenty of sense as an everyday motorcycle. For Penang riders looking for something to commute to work, deal with city traffic, run errands or simply head out for a weekend ride, the Yamaha NMAX 155 is definitely worth considering.

It is not just about looking premium. More importantly, it is a scooter that can fit naturally into your daily routine without making every ride feel like a chore. If the NMAX 155 sounds like your kind of scooter, head over to iMotorbike and check it out for yourself.
