Azroy Hakeem Anuar aims to boost his lap times at this week’s GP Malaysia, aiming to surpass last year’s performance.
In his debut at the GP Malaysia last year, Azroy’s best lap time was 2 minutes 08.738 seconds in the first qualifying session (Q1).
Despite the successful qualifying, Azroy couldn’t replicate that on race day. His best lap time over 18 laps was 2’10.338s, finishing 22nd with an overall time of 39’20.918s.
Azroy, a wildcard in Moto2 with Petronas MIE Racing RW, is determined to improve lap times at the GP Malaysia.
“It’s been a while since I’ve handled a Moto2 machine, so there might be some unfamiliarity. We have multiple sessions—free practice, qualifying, and the race. Maybe I won’t need much time to adjust because I’m already familiar with this track. It’s just getting used to the bike, so I hope everything goes smoothly,” said Azroy.
Hoping to surpass last year’s laps, Azroy stresses quick adaptation for better performance this time, especially in lap times. For the race, I hope it’s rainy so I can compete with riders at the front.”
Asked about a cautious approach, Azroy dismissed it, saying there’s no reason to be cautious given the rarity of such opportunities. “No, this is an opportunity. No need to be cautious; I just need to do my best,” remarked Azroy, setting two finishing targets for Sepang—aiming for the top 20 on a dry track and the top 10 on a wet surface.
Azroy will be joined by teammate Helmi Azman, making his debut in the Motorcycle World Championship at Sepang. The duo is set to make waves as they take on the challenges of the GP Malaysia with determination and high expectations.
