Maximo Quiles has been crowned the 2026 Moto3 World Champion after winning the Indonesian Grand Prix at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit, securing the title with five rounds still remaining in the season.
The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider delivered another commanding performance, taking the lead on Lap 2 before gradually building an advantage over his rivals. The victory marked his 10th win of the campaign, capping a remarkable season for the young Spaniard.
David Almansa of Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP finished second, while Brian Uriarte of Red Bull KTM Ajo completed the podium in third.
Quiles Takes Control at Mandalika
Starting from the front row, Almansa initially made the better start and claimed the holeshot. However, Quiles quickly moved into second place before launching his challenge for the lead on Lap 2.
The championship leader moved ahead as the leading group began to fight for position, while Adrian Fernandez of Leopard Racing also entered the battle for the podium.
The intense opening laps caused the group to spread out, with Almansa dropping as low as eighth while Quiles established himself at the front.
Almansa recovered to second place by Lap 5, keeping the pressure on his title rival. A mistake from Quiles at Turn 16 briefly reduced the gap, giving the chasing riders hope of catching the leader.
However, Quiles soon regained control of the race. By halfway, he had opened a 1.5-second advantage over Almansa, Fernandez and Alvaro Carpe of Red Bull KTM Ajo.
The race also saw several riders crash out. Casey O’Gorman and his SIC58 Squadra Corse teammate Leo Rammerstorfer both suffered separate incidents, while Ryota Ogiwara of CODE Motorsports also crashed.
Carpe’s challenge ended after he collided with the back of Fernandez at Turn 10 on Lap 11 and fell. Although he was able to continue, he lost considerable ground to the leading group. Adrian Cruces of CIP GreenPower also crashed at Turn 16 later in the race but managed to rejoin.

A Tenth Victory Seals the Championship
Despite receiving a track-limits warning with six laps remaining, Quiles maintained his advantage and avoided further mistakes. With a gap of 2.8 seconds heading into the final two laps, the Spaniard had enough breathing room to manage the closing stages and cross the finish line for another victory.
Almansa secured second place, strengthening his position in the overall championship standings, while Uriarte claimed third after overtaking Matteo Bertelle of LEVELUP-MTA on the final lap.
Rico Salmela of Red Bull KTM Tech3 finished fifth, matching his career-best result, ahead of Indonesian home favourite Veda Pratama of Honda Team Asia.
Guido Pini initially crossed the line in seventh but was classified eighth after receiving a Long Lap Penalty-equivalent sanction for cutting the track at Turn 9. Fernandez finished seventh following the adjustment, while Joel Esteban and Scott Ogden completed the top 10.
Quiles Joins an Exclusive Championship Club
Quiles’ title victory with five rounds remaining places him among a select group of riders to have secured a world championship this early across the Grand Prix classes.
Before the Spaniard, only Mike Hailwood, Giacomo Agostini and Marc Marquez had achieved the distinction, underlining the scale of his accomplishment.
With 10 victories already recorded in 2026, Quiles has established himself as the standout rider in the Moto3 field this season. Although the championship battle is now settled, five rounds remain on the 2026 calendar, with the fight for the remaining podiums and championship positions continuing.
For Quiles and CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team, however, Mandalika will be remembered as the weekend they secured the Moto3 world title after a dominant campaign.
