The CFMOTO Aspar Team enjoyed a dream weekend at the 2026 Malaysian Grand Prix, celebrating victories in both the Moto3 and Moto2 classes at the Sepang International Circuit. After the cancellation of the Australian Grand Prix the previous week, the team returned to racing in style as Maximo Quiles triumphed in Moto3, while David Alonso and Daniel Holgado secured a dominant one-two finish in Moto2.
The results marked another successful chapter in CFMOTO’s impressive 2026 campaign as the MotoGP World Championship entered the final four rounds of the season.

Quiles Secures 11th Moto3 Victory of the Season
Fresh off clinching the 2026 Moto3 World Championship in Indonesia, Maximo Quiles arrived at Sepang with the pressure off and immediately showed his pace.
The Spaniard qualified on pole position after setting the fastest lap in Saturday’s qualifying session, earning his fourth pole of the year. Teammate Marco Morelli impressed on his first visit to the Malaysian circuit by qualifying 12th.
When the lights went out on Sunday, Quiles quickly established himself among the front runners before making his decisive move midway through the 15-lap race.
By Lap 8, he broke clear of the leading group and steadily extended his advantage to more than two seconds. The reigning Moto3 champion crossed the finish line comfortably to claim his 11th victory of the season, adding to an already remarkable campaign that has now produced 16 podium finishes. Meanwhile, Morelli struggled to match the pace after running wide during the race and eventually finished in 20th place.
Reflecting on his victory, Quiles admitted the cancelled Australian Grand Prix had motivated him to bounce back in Malaysia.
“So nice! We were angry about Australia because we had great pace there so I came here with a lot of energy to race. I’ve been sick this weekend so I’ve been trying to keep calm but… really happy.”
Alonso Leads CFMOTO One-Two in Moto2
CFMOTO’s success continued in Moto2, where Daniel Holgado and David Alonso delivered one of the team’s strongest performances of the season.
Holgado dominated qualifying to secure pole position by more than half a second, marking his second pole of 2026 and giving CFMOTO pole positions in both Moto3 and Moto2 during the same weekend for the second time this season. Alonso qualified fourth after progressing through Q1, putting both riders in strong positions for Sunday’s race.
Holgado launched perfectly from pole to lead the opening laps before Alonso moved into second and eventually overtook his teammate on Lap 5.
With track temperatures exceeding 50°C, tyre management became a key factor throughout the 17-lap contest. Alonso survived a late scare after almost crashing at Turn 14 with only three laps remaining, but he recovered quickly to build a comfortable gap and claim his second Moto2 victory of the season following his earlier success at Assen.
Holgado crossed the line in second, giving CFMOTO Aspar Team a memorable one-two finish and another double podium celebration.

Alonso and Holgado Continue Championship Charge
Alonso’s victory marked his fifth Moto2 podium of the season and strengthened his position in the championship standings. He now sits fourth overall, just one point ahead of teammate Holgado in fifth.
After the race, Alonso praised the team’s work throughout the weekend despite the difficult conditions.
“I’m not used to these types of races! We made a really good job through the weekend to make a good start and had a good feeling. I wanted to push and to learn more. I almost crashed near the end but finally I am here.”
Holgado was equally pleased with another podium finish after a physically demanding race.
“I’m very happy with the race; a very hard race from the first lap because the track condition today was super-hard to manage. We were so fast. Back on the podium with P2 and I’m happy for the team because they deserve it.”
Strong Weekend for CFMOTO Before Qatar
Away from the Grand Prix classes, Sepang also hosted the final round of the Moto4 Asia Talent Cup, where CFMOTO development rider Wenze Zhong finished 15th and 16th across the two races.
With victories in both Moto3 and Moto2, CFMOTO leaves Malaysia carrying strong momentum into the next round of the championship at the Lusail International Circuit, where the teams will compete under the lights at the Qatar Grand Prix.
The Sepang weekend once again highlighted CFMOTO’s growing strength in Grand Prix motorcycle racing, with the manufacturer continuing to establish itself as one of the leading forces in the Moto3 and Moto2 paddocks.
