PETRONAS SPRINTA YAMAHA-31 RACING created excellent results when they took first and second positions in the final race of the CP125 category in conjunction with Round 4 of the 2026 PETRONAS MAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship at the Penang State Stadium Circuit.

Md Farid Hakimi Farid Sezli was crowned champion after defeating his teammate, Md Syamil Amsyar M Iffende, in a dramatic action that was only separated by a margin of 0.110 seconds at the finish line.

Farid started the race well before being overtaken by Syamil who started from pole position. Behind them, Md Idlan Haqimi Raduan from ZYNERGYS HONDA KC RACING TEAM remained in third position while putting pressure on the two Yamaha riders.

At the same time, Idlan’s teammate, Md Akif Abdullah, displayed an impressive performance when he rose from 10th place to be in the top five as early as the first round.

The competition then focused on a three-way battle between Syamil, Idlan and Farid. Syamil continued to show consistent performance when recording the fastest time of 54.454 seconds in the fourth round to maintain his lead.

However, Idlan was getting closer and managed to narrow the gap to just 0.135 seconds by the eighth lap before making a bold pass to take over first position at a strategic corner.

As the race progressed, luck was not on Idlan’s side. On lap 10, his machine suffered a technical problem while leading the race, forcing him to slow down and miss out on the chance to chase victory.

The situation was taken full advantage of by Farid who immediately took over the lead, followed by Syamil in second place.

The final lap saw the most thrilling action as Syamil, who was only 0.144 seconds behind Farid, launched a series of attacks. Both riders competed side by side in the final corner before accelerating towards the finish line.

Farid eventually finished the race with a time of 13 minutes 46.500 seconds to emerge as the champion. Syamil finished in second place with a time of 13 minutes 46.610 seconds, while Md Khairi Asyraf Mahmood from IPONE YAMAHA YY PANG RACING TEAM completed the podium in third place with a time of 13 minutes 48.927 seconds.

After the race, Farid expressed his gratitude for the victory, which he described as the result of the hard work of the entire team.

“Thank you for this win. This week has been very challenging as we struggled to find the right machine settings. Finally, we found the best adjustment in the warm-up session this morning and it gave me confidence to face the race.”

He also explained that the team’s strategy is to dominate the front group from the start to control the pace of the race.

“The competition was really intense. I lost focus when Idlan overtook me, but I remained calm and waited for the opportunity. When his machine had a technical problem and Syamil got a little wide, I immediately took the opportunity to overtake.”

Farid admitted that the final moments of the race were quite thrilling when he almost made a mistake before the finish line.

“I just focused on maintaining the pace until the end. Even though I almost made a mistake at the last corner, Alhamdulillah the victory was still mine.”

This result further strengthens PETRONAS SPRINTA YAMAHA-31 RACING’s performance in the 2026 CP125 season when it managed to achieve a double victory through first and second positions in Round 4 of the PETRONAS MAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship.
