The Evolution of Chinese Motorcycles with QJ Motor

Today, Chinese brands like QJ Motor are challenging industry norms with high-performance and competitively priced bikes.

Not long ago, Chinese motorcycles were seen as cheap but unreliable. While they provided an affordable entry point, they struggled to compete with established Japanese and European brands. Today, that perception is shifting, with manufacturers like CFMoto and QJ Motor proving that affordability can go hand-in-hand with performance and innovation.

QJ Motor: A Brand on the Rise

QJ Motor, backed by the automotive giant Geely Group, is rapidly making a name for itself. With access to vast resources, the brand is developing motorcycles that challenge industry standards. As part of a company with ties to Volvo, Lotus, and Mercedes-Benz, QJ Motor benefits from extensive engineering expertise, allowing it to produce bikes that rival more established competitors.

Today, Chinese brands like QJ Motor are challenging industry norms with high-performance and competitively priced bikes.

The QJ Motor SRK 800 RR: A Game-Changer?

One of QJ Motor’s most exciting models is the SRK 800 RR, a fully-fired sportbike designed to compete with Japanese and European middleweight machines. The 2025 update brings a major structural change—replacing the steel perimeter frame with a stiffer aluminium chassis for better handling and agility.

Performance and Engineering

Despite its updated frame, the bike has gained some weight, now at 214 kg (471 lbs) wet. This is likely due to modifications in the exhaust system to meet the latest Euro 5+ emissions standards. The SRK 800 RR houses a 778cc inline-four engine. It is capable of producing 95 horsepower and 75 Nm (55 lb-ft) of torque, positioning it alongside competitors like the Triumph Daytona 660 and Honda CBR650R.

Technology and Features

The SRK 800 RR sets itself apart with high-end features, including Marzocchi suspension, Brembo brakes, a quickshifter, traction control, and a 5-inch TFT display. It also offers modern conveniences such as USB-A and USB-C charging ports and built-in navigation. While its sharp styling is in line with many modern sportbikes, opinions may vary on whether it looks aggressive or overly stylized.

Price vs. Performance

One of the SRK 800 RR’s biggest advantages is its competitive pricing. In 2024, it was priced at 8,999 euros (about $9,700 USD, approximately RM42,900) in France. This is significantly undercutting the Triumph Daytona 660 (10,695 euros, or $11,500 USD, approximately RM50,900) and the Honda CBR650R (9,899 euros, or $10,600 USD, approximately RM46,900). For budget-conscious riders, the combination of advanced features and a lower price tag makes it an attractive option.

The Future of Chinese Motorcycles

Motorcycles like the SRK 800 RR demonstrate that Chinese brands are no longer just producing budget models—they are innovating and improving rapidly. While concerns about long-term reliability and resale value persist, the gap between Chinese manufacturers and their global counterparts is closing.

Should You Take the Plunge?

The choice between an established brand and a newcomer like QJ Motor ultimately comes down to personal preference. Some riders may prefer the reputation and reliability of Triumph or Honda, while others might be drawn to the SRK 800 RR’s affordability and features. Would you be willing to take a chance on a rising brand, or would you stick with the tried-and-true? The motorcycle industry is changing—perhaps it’s time for a new perspective.
