Marc Márquez Wins Misano MotoGP, Draws Level with Jorge Martín

The Ducati Lenovo rider claimed his second victory of the Misano weekend to move level with Jorge Martín on 274 points after 14 rounds.

Defending MotoGP champion Marc Márquez claimed victory at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli on Sunday, beating his brother Alex Márquez and Pedro Acosta to win the Grand Prix of San Marino and the Rimini Riviera.

The result gave Ducati Lenovo Team a perfect weekend at its home circuit, with Marc Márquez also winning Saturday’s Sprint race. Starting from second on the grid, Márquez made a strong opening and moved into the lead after a few corners following a crash for Marco Bezzecchi. He remained at the front until Jorge Martín briefly moved ahead on lap six.

Márquez responded on lap 12, overtaking Martín at Turn 6 to reclaim the lead. The Ducati rider then managed the gap in the closing stages before defending his position from a late charge by his younger brother Alex. Marc Márquez crossed the finish line 0.657 seconds ahead of Alex, with Acosta completing the podium.

The victory was particularly important for Márquez in the championship battle. After 14 Grands Prix, he and Martín are now level on 274 points, although Márquez takes the advantage in the standings thanks to his greater number of race victories. Márquez has five wins compared with Martín’s single victory.

Bagnaia Crashes, Martín Struggles

Francesco Bagnaia produced a strong start from the fifth row, moving into the top 10 on the opening lap. However, his home Grand Prix ended on lap six when the Ducati Lenovo rider crashed at Turn 2.

For Martín, fifth place was a difficult result despite remaining level on points with Márquez. The Aprilia rider initially showed strong pace and felt comfortable on the bike before arm problems began to affect his performance.

Martín explained that he increasingly struggled with braking and controlling the bike as the race progressed, with the issue appearing to be related to suspected compartment syndrome.

“I’m happy with my speed and with the way I managed the race for as long as I was able. I started strong and felt comfortable on the bike. Unfortunately, my arm then began to bother me. I felt like I couldn’t brake well and be as fluid as I wanted. As the laps went by, I had increasingly less strength in my forearm and in the end, I was no longer able to control the bike,” Martín said.

Martín will now focus on recovering ahead of next weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix at Spielberg, where he will work with the team to determine the best solution for the arm issue.

Aldeguer Impresses with Fourth

Fermín Aldeguer delivered an impressive result by finishing fourth at Misano. The sophomore rider has also faced injury problems this season, making his strong performance another positive result for the young Spaniard.

Martín followed in fifth, while Raúl Fernández brought the Trackhouse MotoGP Team home in sixth. Fabio Di Giannantonio recovered from a difficult opening lap to finish seventh for Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team. Enea Bastianini, Luca Marini and Fabio Quartararo completed the top 10.

Outside the top 10, Brad Binder finished 11th, followed by Toprak Razgatlioglu in 12th, Franco Morbidelli in 13th and Pol Espargaró in 14th. Both Bezzecchi and Bagnaia ended their home Grand Prix in the gravel, making it a disappointing Sunday for the Italian riders and their home fans.

Márquez: “I Tried to Manage My Lead”

Márquez admitted the race required careful management after Bezzecchi’s early crash changed the situation at the front: “We had a good race and I’m happy, especially since Misano is the home race for Ducati, but it was a tough one. When you race with this kind of pace, it’s easy to make a mistake. This is the reason why, when I saw Bezzecchi’s crash, I planned the race in a different way and maybe I relaxed a bit too much,” Márquez said. 

The Ducati rider eventually returned to his strongest pace before taking control of the closing stages: “Little by little, I went back to my best pace and recovered the feeling I had yesterday. In the second part of the race, I tried to manage my lead and when Alex got closer, I started to push again. At this track, if you aren’t a lot faster than the rider ahead, it is hard to overtake,” he added.

With the Misano weekend now complete, Márquez and Martín head to Austria level on 274 points, while Bezzecchi sits third, 33 points behind the championship leaders. The MotoGP paddock will now travel to the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, with the opening day of the Austrian Grand Prix scheduled for Friday, September 18.
