The ninth round of the PETRONAS MAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship kicked off with high energy at the Medini Iskandar City Circuit this morning. Azroy Hakeem Anuar of the Honda Estremo Yuzy Racing team stole the show, setting the fastest time in the CP150 qualifying session, while early practice sessions showcased competitive speeds from top contenders.
In a wet free practice session 1, Kasma Daniel of the PETRONAS Sprinta Yamaha Maju Motor team led with a time of 46.219 seconds. He was closely followed by Md Akid Aziz from PETRONAS Sprinta Yamaha – CKJ Racing, who clocked 46.764 seconds, while Azroy came in third at 46.822 seconds.
During the second free practice session, Akid surged to the lead, clocking the fastest lap at 44.252 seconds, closely followed by teammate Afif with a time of 44.301 seconds.
During the afternoon’s intense qualifying session, Akid took a more cautious approach, familiarizing himself with the track conditions before securing the second-fastest time at 44.626 seconds, trailing Azroy by only 0.002 seconds.
Azroy seized this opportunity to push hard, dominating the lap time charts with a 44.624-second record, aiming to make a comeback after missing points in Jempol due to his Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) commitments. This performance highlights his determination to reclaim top positions as he prepares for tomorrow’s “Super-Pole” session.
Reflecting on his achievement, Azroy stated, “I haven’t raced in Cub Prix for a while, so I used this session to get familiar with the machine and the pace. The team has ensured everything’s in optimal condition, although the circuit is challenging today. Hopefully, tomorrow’s conditions will be better.”
Kasma Daniel wrapped up the top three with a best lap time of 44.675 seconds, setting the stage for what promises to be an electrifying race day as top riders aim for victory here in Medini Johor.
