While the international customizing scene around BMW Motorrad often highlights Heritage models like the iconic BMW R 18 and BMW R nineT, there’s an exciting new project that takes a different direction, looking ahead to the future with the electric scooter, the BMW CE 02.
BMW Motorrad Austria, in partnership with the Design & Makers Studio Vagabund in Graz, has recently introduced an extraordinary customized version of the CE 02. This unique creation, named the BMW CE 02 x VAGABUND, is a chic eParkourer tailored for urban landscapes.
BMW CE 02 x VAGABUND marks a significant milestone in the customization scene, merging cutting-edge design with retro flair.
Paul Brauchart, founder and managing director of Vagabund Moto said, “We were immediately in love when we saw the CE 02 for the first time at the BMW Motorrad Days in Berlin. The overall design of the CE 02 was simply a perfect match for us, as we at Vagabund are always trying to break new ground and reinterpret existing products in our own way.
“In this project, we would define the general design approach as a ‘retro-future.’ We tried to combine the very futuristic original design with some retro vibes and thus give the viewer a familiar feeling,” he added.
The Austrian custom bike impresses with its blend of futuristic design and functional retro elements, targeting a young, dynamic audience.
Notable features include the integration of the “OB-4 Magic Radio” from Teenage Engineering, an “electric exhaust” that doubles as a stylish umbrella holder, and a running board with skateboard grip tape to enhance its urban, sporty aesthetic.
BMW Motorrad and Vagabund also made a statement with the bike’s 3.6-meter-high packaging, which is part of the overall concept.
In the meantime, despite its custom design, the CE 02 retains its core specifications, including a maximum power output of 11 kW (15 hp), a top speed of 95 km/h, and a range of over 90 km. Its low weight of 132 kg and a seat height of 750 mm makes it highly manoeuvrable.
Standard features include “Flow” and “Surf” riding modes for optimal urban cruising and dynamic riding, respectively. It also comes with an external charger offering 0.9 kW of charging power for convenient use at household sockets.
The CE 02’s chassis includes a torsionally rigid double-loop frame made of tubular steel, hydraulically damped telescopic forks at the front, and a single-sided swingarm with a directly pivoted shock absorber at the rear.
The bike rides on wide tyres mounted on cast light alloy wheels and features disc brakes with BMW Motorrad ABS for safe deceleration.
In the cockpit, a clear TFT display shows riding speed and battery charge status, complemented by a USB-C charging socket for smartphone power. Additionally, the BMW Motorrad Connected app, featuring Bluetooth connectivity, enhances convenience by predicting charging end times. Users can also access the charging status and other vehicle information for the CE 02 anytime and anywhere through the app.
The BMW CE 02 is priced at RM 38,500 in Malaysia. For more details and information visit BMW Motorrad.
