Paul Weller’s iconic ‘Stanley Road’ Lambretta Heads to Auction

A rare 1965 Lambretta Li150 Special once owned by British music icon Paul Weller is set to go under the hammer later this month, with auctioneers expecting it to fetch between £45,000 and £55,000 (approximately RM301,000).

The iconic scooter, known as the ‘Stanley Road’ Lambretta, will be auctioned by H&H Classics on 22 July at the National Motorcycle Museum in Solihull, England.

The scooter is regarded as one of the most recognisable celebrity-owned Lambrettas ever produced, thanks to its close association with Weller, the former frontman of The Jam and The Style Council, who later enjoyed a successful solo career and earned the nickname “The Modfather.”

Adding to its significance, the Lambretta was specially painted by Kinetic Art as a tribute to Weller’s critically acclaimed Stanley Road album. The artwork was inspired by designs created by renowned British pop artist Peter Blake, best known for creating The Beatles’ iconic Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album cover.

Following its completion, the scooter was taken to Margate for a promotional photoshoot with Weller to promote the Stanley Road album. The images have since become some of the most recognisable photographs featuring a Lambretta and remain closely associated with both the album and Britain’s Mod culture.

According to Lucas Gomersall, motorcycle specialist at H&H Classics, the scooter stands in a class of its own in terms of desirability and collectability.

He described it as one of the most special Lambrettas ever offered at auction, adding that its association with Paul Weller makes it particularly significant for both music fans and vintage scooter collectors.

The Lambretta also carries an important charitable history. Weller previously donated the scooter to a CancerBACUP fundraising auction, supporting a cause championed by his close friend, musician Ian Dury, following Dury’s liver cancer diagnosis.

During the charity event, the scooter was personally signed by Paul Weller, Peter Blake, and drummer Steve White, further enhancing its historical and collectible value.

Since changing ownership, the Lambretta has spent most of its life as a display piece, appearing only occasionally at classic scooter ride-outs.

The winning bidder will also receive an extensive collection of memorabilia, including copies of Scootering magazine, a limited-edition print from the original Margate photoshoot with Paul Weller, and a framed copy of the Stanley Road album.

The Lambretta forms part of a 328-lot motorcycle auction, with public viewing taking place at the National Motorcycle Museum on 21 and 22 July before bidding officially begins. For scooter collectors, Mod enthusiasts and Paul Weller fans alike, the Stanley Road Lambretta represents a rare opportunity to own one of the most famous celebrity-owned scooters in history.
