Here is a quick comparison between the Honda ADV 150 and the Yamaha NMax 155 to help you choose the right motorcycle that suits you!

Having a hard time deciding whether to go for the Yamaha NMax 155 or the Honda ADV 150? Worry not! In this article, we will be doing a full A-Z comparison between the NMax 155 and ADV 150 to help you pick the right motorcycle! To keep the comparison fair, we will be using the Malaysia-spec 2021 Yamaha NMax and the newly launched 2021 Honda ADV 150.

2021 Yamaha NMax vs 2021 Honda ADV 150

Hong Leong Yamaha Motor first launched the Yamaha Nmax in Malaysia almost 5 years ago in January 2016. The current updated 2021 model was launched last year in December 2020.

On the other hand, the Honda ADV 150 is a fairly new bike in Malaysia. In fact, the Honda ADV 150 was just launched a week ago in February 2021.

 

Design

 

Starting with the design, the Honda ADV 150 follows the rugged design of the bigger Honda X-ADV. Being a dual-sport scooter the Honda ADV 150 is designed and built to go both on-road and off-road.

On the other hand, being a road bike, the Yamaha NMAX is subtle and follows European design genes.

In the case of riding position, as both the bikes fall under the scooter category, the seating is very similar on both bikes.


Upfront the Honda ADV 150 gets twin LED headlamp unit with DRLS. Meanwhile, the Yamaha NMax gets a 6-bulb LED headlamp unit with 4 low beam bulbs and 2 high beam bulbs at the bottom. At the rear, both the bikes get LED taillamp units as well.


Chassis wheels and tyes

On the inside, the Honda ADV 150 is built around a double-cradle frame. The Yamaha NMAX on the other hand is built around a backbone frame. As for the wheels and tyres, the NMAX comes with 13-inch wheels wrapped around 110/70 tyre upfront and 130/70 tyre at the rear. Meanwhile, the dual-sport Honda ADV 150 features a larger 14-inch wheel with 110/80 tyre up front and a 13-inch wheel with wide 130/70 tyre at the rear.

Suspension and brakes

Suspension duties on the NMax are taken care of by telescopic front forks and swing arm mounted mono-shock. In the case of the ADV 150, a telescopic front fork and a set of Showa twin shocks at the rear take care of suspension duties.

Braking is done via hydraulic disc brakes at the front and rear on both the bikes. However, unlike the Nmax, the Honda ADV 150 gets ABS as standard in Malaysia.

Engine

NMax is powered by a Blue Core liquid-cooled SOHC 155cc (VVA) single-cylinder engine. Mated to a CVT and chain final drive, the 2021 Yamaha NMax pushes 15.1 hp @ 8,000 rpm and 13.9 Nm of peak torque at 6,000 rpm. The new updated model is also equipped with Stop & Start System which shuts the engine off automatically when the scooter comes to rest or idling at a traffic light to save fuel. This system can be turned on and off via the handlebar integrated switch.

On the other hand, the Honda ADV 150 is powered by a 149.3cc SOHC liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine which comes equipped with Honda’s PGM-Fi and eSP+. Thanks to this, the Honda ADV 150 is both powerful and fuel-efficient. Mated to a CVT and belt final drive, the ADV 150 puts out 14.6 hp @ 8,500 rpm and 13.9 Nm of peak torque @ 6,500 rpm. The Honda ADV 150 also comes with Honda’s Idling stop system (ISS) which shuts off the bike’s engine in traffic to save fuel.

Electronics and rider aids



The Honda ADV 150 comes equipped with an array of features such as; LED lighting with DRLs, LCD digital instrument panel, adjustable windshield, single-channel ABS, ESS (Emergency stop signal) and Honda Smart Key system. Besides this, the Honda ADV 150 comes with a large 27.8-litre under seat storage tank and a cockpit glovebox with an inbuilt 12v charging socket to charge electronic devices while on the move.



On the other hand, the Yamaha NMAX comes with LED lighting, LCD instrument cluster and hazard emergency lights. On the creature comfort side, the Yamaha NMAX comes with a 23.3L under-seat storage with an inbuilt 12v charging socket as well.

 

Dimension


The Honda ADV 150 measures 1,950 mm x 763 mm x 1,153 mm and comes with a seat height of 795 mm. Fuel tank capacity is 8 litres and the ADV 150 rolls in with a dry weight of 133 kg.

The Yamaha NMax measures 1,935mm x 740mm x 1,160mm and weighs 130kg dry. The seat height is slightly lower at 765mm and the model comes with a fuel capacity of 7.1 litres.

Colour options and pricing

The Honda ADV 150 is priced at RM 11,999  in Malaysia (excluding road tax, insurance and registration fee) and is available in two colours: Viva City Red and  Mat Charcol Gray Metallic.

The Yamaha NMAX comes in two colours, Grey and Matt Red and is priced at RM 8,998 (excluding insurance, road tax and registration fees) in Malaysia.

So which bike is for you?

Besides being a part of the sub 200cc scooter squad, these two bikes are completely different in their own way. As mentioned earlier, the Honda ADV 150 is a dual-sport scooter meanwhile the Yamaha NMAX is meant for only road use. Having said that, choosing one between these two really comes down to personal preference and your allocated budget.

The Honda ADV 150 is well equpieed and comes with an array of features compared to the Yamaha NMAX. However, it comes at a price of RM 11,999 which is roughly MYR 3,000 or 33% more than the price of the NMax. If you have the budget and you want something that’s well equpieed and meant for both on-road and offroad use, then the Honda ADV 150 is for you.

On the other hand, if the budget is an issue and you don’t really mind the lack of features and the off-road capability then the Yamaha NMAX is for you.
