Over the past few years, we have come across a range of incredible custom Yamaha motorcycles under Yamaha’s “Yard Built Specials”. The Yard Built Specials lets talented motorcycle customisers to design and build inspirational custom Yamaha masterpieces based on modern production models.

One of the latest builds to roll out of the Yard Built Specials is the XR9 Carbona by Bottpower. The new XR9 Carbona is built based on Bottpower’s experience in Pikes Peak races. Back in 2017, Bottpower won in two categories and finished fourth overall. The idea behind the XR9 Carbona is to create and deliver a compact, aggressive, light and high-performance machine for those who thrive for speed.

“The XR9 Carbona is inspired by our Pikes Peak victories. With its strong torque and compact chassis, we realised that the CP3-powered Yamaha XSR900 was the ideal base for this dynamic new Yard Built special,” commented Bottpower manager David Sánchez. “Firstly our goal was to create a cool and fast bike with a modern and aggressive look – and we also wanted to be able to develop a ‘plug and play’ kit that would enable any Yamaha XSR900 or CP3 Platform owner to transform their bike into the XR9.”

“Using our extensive experience with composites and 3D printing, we introduced Yamaha R-series elements like the hidden round headlights to create the feeling of a race bike with a number plate,” explains Bottpower’s senior designer Hugo van Waaijen. “The XR9 Carbona features a lot of optical mass around the engine meaning a stubby front and short rear – and when looking from the ¾ front view it reminded us of a Pitbull with strong muscular shoulders (the fuel tank) and a hunched look which creates a powerful stance.”

Most of Yamaha’s Yard Built bikes are “one-off” specials which are simply built to inspire Yamaha motorcycle owners to create their own unique custom bikes. However, the XR Carbona is a bit different. The Bottpower Cabrona XR9 kit can be bought and fitted to any motorcycle that uses Yamaha’s CP 3 platform. These models include the Yamaha XSR 900, MT-09 and the Tracer 900. Yamaha says the kit can be used in any of these models without any frame modifications.

The XR Carbona kit comes with a fuel tank cover with integrated carbon fibre air intakes, carbon fibre sear and tail including Alcantara saddle, custom tail and signal lights, custom front number plate with integrated LED position lights, radiator covers with winglets, custom high/low beam headlights, license plate holder, custom sprocket cover and belly pan.

Pricing of the base Bottpower XR9 Carbona kit starts at €4,975 / MYR 24,688. Buyers also have the option to add on additional parts if they want extra oomph factor! Interested? Check out the full details here: Bottpower official website.
