Meet the Harley Africa Twin… or is it the Honda Sport Glide?

Meet the Harley Africa Twin… or is it the Honda Sport Glide?

It’s the time of the year when almost anything is allowed, but there’s still some things that surpass even our wildest dreams! That’s the case of this latest project from American builders San Diego Customs, who decided it would be fun to mix a Harley-Davidson with a Honda, to create the Harley Africa Twin.

They’ve decided to mix a 2018 Harley-Davidson Sport Glide with a Honda Africa Twin, and to reach the end result, San Diego Customs had to rework a lot of components, since these bikes aren’t even related to each other in any way, except they both have two wheels.

The engine used it the V-twin from Harley-Davidson, and they’ve decided to keep the frame of the Sport Glide, even though they had to rework it and match it to the handmade swingarm. The exhaust system is also customized for this project, as well as the handlebar risers, probably the highest risers ever made for a motorcycle.

With a completely new rear frame and rear end, in order to install three aluminium cases, San Diego Customs also decided to upgrade chassis components. So, suspensions are from Öhlins, while brakes are supplied by Brembo.

If you have the guts to take the Harley Africa Twin off road, you’ll have your life made a little easier, since the spoke wheels are bigger than the stock cast wheels from Harley-Davidson, with 19-inch front and 17-inch rear, covered in deep groove tyres for extra traction in the dirt. Bear in mind though, that this is still a heavy bike, so riding off road won’t be easy.

With a front fairing taken from the popular Honda Africa Twin, the Harley Africa Twin also gets extra engine protection so you’ll be able to take her on some off road adventures without damaging the engine.

It’s still unclear why San Diego Customs decided to mix these two bikes, and the result might not be to everyone’s taste, but it’s still great to see customizers around the world that have the guts and imagination to create some crazy motorcycles like the Harley Africa Twin.

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I'm a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i'll be there to have some fun!
