MV Agusta confirms all-new four-cylinder engine – to debut in 2018

MV Agusta confirms all-new four-cylinder engine – to debut in 2018

It’s been one heck of a year for MV Agusta, really. The famed Italian motorcycle manufacturer has just completed its 25% buyout of stakes from Mercedes-AMG and is now 100% owned by MV Agusta Holding. The latter is a new shareholding structure owned by Giovanni Castiglioni, CEO of MV Agusta, and the Sardarov family.

Those who are in tune with behind-the-scenes shenanigans at MV Agusta are sure to know that the firm has recently finished a rather intensive restructuring process from the aforementioned note above to the streamlining of its product lineup. The company has also worked to further consolidate its position in the super premium motorcycle segment.

Aside from that, MV Agusta has also worked tirelessly to get its three-cylinder powerplants up to Euro-4 compliance. With that task sorted, the company has just announced that it will be developing a brand new line of four-cylinder engines to be used in its future models. The new powerplant is expected to debut as soon as 2018.

In what model exactly the new four-banger is expected to debut in is anyone’s guess at the moment. We reckon that the Brutale range could be the first to be subjected to the new four-cylinder engine as it is one of the brand’s top sellers.

Furthermore, the CEO of MV Agusta himself, Mr. Castiglioni, has revealed that a 1,200 cc Brutale is indeed on the horizon. Naturally, the next step after refreshing the Brutale range with the new engine should be plonking said mill into the F4 since that is another one of MV Agusta’s trademark models.

However, not everything is looking too rosy. Unfortunately for the MV Agusta Reparto Corse WSBK team, reports have emerged that the team has basically reached the zenith of the current F4 package. As a result, the team could very well be left to make do with the same motorcycle for 2018 and possibly even 2019.
