MODENAS and Kolej KEDA Launch EV Motorcycle Industry-Academia Centre of Excellence

The new EV-MIACE centre aims to strengthen industry and TVET collaboration while developing skills for Malaysia’s growing electric motorcycle sector.

Motosikal dan Enjin Nasional Sdn Bhd (MODENAS), a member of the DRB-HICOM Group, has teamed up with Kolej KEDA to launch the EV Motorcycle Industry-Academia Centre of Excellence (EV-MIACE), strengthening collaboration between the motorcycle industry and technical and vocational education and training (TVET).

Located at the Motorcycle Technology Department of Kolej KEDA in Sik, Kedah, the centre is the first initiative of its kind in Kedah involving collaboration between Kolej KEDA and MODENAS.

The EV-MIACE is designed to bring industry knowledge, technology and technical expertise into TVET education, with a particular focus on electric motorcycle technology. Under the collaboration, students will gain hands-on exposure to MODENAS electric motorcycle systems, while MODENAS will provide technical and advisory support for the development of Kolej KEDA’s EV motorcycle teaching and learning module.

The collaboration will also see MODENAS share current technology and technical expertise, as well as contribute learning equipment to support the programme. Students who complete the module will also receive skills recognition and certification from MODENAS.

Roslan Roskan, Chief Executive Officer of MODENAS stated that “As motorcycle technology continues to evolve, developing the right technical capabilities is very important. Through EV-MIACE, Modenas and Kolej KEDA are bringing industry and education closer together to help develop Malaysian talent with the latest skills for the future of the electric motorcycle sector.”

For the initial phase running from September to December 2026, a total of 25 Kolej KEDA students will undergo training under the EV Motorcycle learning module and receive MODENAS certification upon completion. The collaboration is set to expand further in 2027, with plans to conduct two short-term courses for 60 participants and integrate the EV motorcycle learning module into Kolej KEDA’s existing TVET motorcycle studies.

From 2028 to 2030, Kolej KEDA also plans to serve as an industrial training partner for upskilling and reskilling initiatives under the Akademi Dalam Industri (ADI) scheme.

The EV-MIACE launch was held alongside the 13th Kolej KEDA Graduation Ceremony, which was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW), KEDA and MODENAS.

Through EV-MIACE, MODENAS and Kolej KEDA aim to develop a stronger pipeline of skilled talent equipped to meet the changing technical requirements of Malaysia’s motorcycle industry, particularly as electric motorcycle technology continues to develop.
