Continuing its commitment to giving back to the community, iMotorbike Penang carried out its latest Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative in July with a visit to Persatuan Syukur Penyayang Pulau Pinang, a non-profit organisation based in Jalan Ayer Itam, Georgetown, Penang.
The organisation provides care and shelter for vulnerable individuals, particularly those who are homeless, without family support, or in need of continued assistance after receiving treatment at government hospitals.
The home operates through a three-zone system based on the condition of its residents. The Red Zone is reserved for critical patients requiring closer attention, while the Yellow Zone accommodates residents with moderate medical conditions. Meanwhile, the Green Zone is for residents whose health conditions are considered stable and under control.
A significant number of the residents come from vulnerable backgrounds, with around 60% being homeless, while another 30% are referred from government hospitals after having no family members to care for them. The residents are also generally single and without spouses or immediate family support.
The home is sustained primarily through public donations, which help cover the costs of food, accommodation, medical care, and other daily necessities. A team of 13 staff members, led by Mr. Peter, is responsible for managing the home and caring for its residents.
The organisation’s journey began in September 2005, when Peter rented a single-storey house along Jalan Tan Iu Ghee, establishing what would become its first home. Its first resident was an 80-year-old man suffering from severe bedsores, who had been found sleeping outside a storehouse at Weld Quay.
Since then, the organisation has continued its efforts to provide a safe and dignified place for people who may otherwise have nowhere else to turn.
During the CSR visit, the iMotorbike Penang team contributed essential supplies to support the home’s daily needs while spending time with the staff and residents. The visit gave the team an opportunity to better understand the challenges faced by welfare organisations providing long-term care to vulnerable communities.
The latest initiative forms part of iMotorbike Penang’s ongoing monthly CSR programme, following its previous outreach efforts to welfare homes and organisations across the northern region.
Through these continued initiatives, iMotorbike remains committed to supporting local communities and contributing towards a society where vulnerable individuals are not left behind.
