In a thrilling race under wet conditions at the Thai MotoGP recently, Francesco Bagnaia secured victory over championship leader Jorge Martin, reducing Martin’s lead from 22 to 17 points.
With only two race weekends left, the championship battle between Bagnaia and Martin is intensifying as they head to the Malaysian GP next weekend, followed by the season finale in Valencia from November 15-17.
The race began with Pramac Ducati’s Martin, who started third, taking an early lead over Bagnaia. However, a wide turn saw him slip to third, allowing Bagnaia to reclaim control with Marc Marquez in pursuit.
Marquez, a six-time world champion, pushed his limits but ultimately crashed out, leaving Bagnaia to hold off Martin in the challenging conditions. Bagnaia crossed the line nearly three seconds ahead, notching his ninth win of the season.
Pedro Acosta claimed the final podium spot after a fierce duel with KTM’s Jack Miller, adding more action to the race behind the championship leaders.
Bagnaia’s teammate, Enea Bastianini, who won Saturday’s sprint race, faced early setbacks in Race 2 due to a first-turn clash. Despite sliding out mid-race, he fought back to finish in 14th.
With the gap now at 17 points, Bagnaia and Martin’s showdown heads to Malaysia, where every point will count. Don’t miss the Petronas Grand Prix of Malaysia as the title rivals gear up for one of MotoGP’s most pivotal moments.
