Rio de Janeiro has been selected to host the official MotoGP 2027 Season Launch on 21 February 2027, bringing one of the championship’s biggest pre-season events to Brazil for the first time.

The main event is scheduled to take place at Botafogo Beach, with the iconic Sugarloaf Mountain providing the backdrop as MotoGP officially unveils the 2027 season.

The announcement follows MotoGP’s successful return to Brazil in 2026, when almost 150,000 spectators attended the sold-out Grand Prix weekend in Goiânia. The strong turnout highlighted Brazil’s continued passion for motorcycle racing and its importance as a market for the championship.

MotoGP Season Launch Heads to Rio

The MotoGP Season Launch has become one of the championship’s major annual events, bringing together all MotoGP teams, riders and manufacturers ahead of the opening round.

Beyond the official team presentations, the event is expected to feature rider appearances, interviews, manufacturer displays, fan activities, merchandise and live entertainment.

For Rio de Janeiro, hosting the event also provides an opportunity to showcase the city’s landmarks, culture and tourism attractions to a global audience through MotoGP’s extensive international media and digital coverage.

The 2026 MotoGP Season Launch in Kuala Lumpur generated more than USD7 million in economic value, highlighting the potential impact of the event on tourism, local businesses and destination marketing.

Following previous editions in Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur, Rio de Janeiro is set to raise the scale of the event further with a festival combining MotoGP, entertainment and Brazilian culture.

For fans, the Season Launch will provide a rare opportunity to see every MotoGP team, rider and factory motorcycle gathered in one location outside of a Grand Prix weekend.

Visitors will be able to attend official team presentations, meet riders, explore manufacturer displays and take part in various interactive activities.

The event will also feature performances from internationally recognised artists alongside Brazilian musicians and entertainers, creating a festival atmosphere around Botafogo Beach. With Sugarloaf Mountain and Rio’s waterfront providing the backdrop, the 2027 Season Launch is expected to offer a distinctly Brazilian setting for the beginning of the new MotoGP season.

MotoGP Group CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta said “The MotoGP Season Launch has become one of the defining moments of the year for our championship, bringing together every team, rider and manufacturer as we begin a new season.”

He furhter added: “The enthusiasm shown by Brazilian fans during our sold-out return to Goiânia in 2026 confirmed the extraordinary connection between MotoGP and Brazil. Following the success of our recent Season Launch events in Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur, Rio de Janeiro provides the perfect stage to continue raising the bar, combining iconic locations, passionate fans and world-class entertainment. We look forward to delivering our biggest and most spectacular MotoGP Season Launch yet.”

Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere also welcomed the opportunity, saying the event would allow the city to showcase its natural beauty, sporting culture and globally recognised landmarks to millions of MotoGP fans worldwide.

Rio de Janeiro is honoured to host the MotoGP 2027 Season Launch and welcome one of the most important annual events in international motorsport to our city. Following the outstanding success of MotoGP’s return to Brazil in Goiânia, we are proud to play our part in celebrating the beginning of a new season.

“This event will showcase the very best of Rio de Janeiro to millions of fans around the world while creating unforgettable experiences for riders, teams, partners and visitors. We look forward to welcoming the MotoGP family and fans from across the globe to our city,” he added.

Further details regarding the event programme, fan activities and media opportunities are expected to be announced at a later date. With MotoGP set to officially begin its 2027 campaign against the backdrop of Sugarloaf Mountain, Rio de Janeiro is preparing to turn the season launch into a major celebration of motorcycle racing and Brazilian culture.
