Raul Fernandez Leads Aprilia 1-2-3 in British MotoGP

Trackhouse Aprilia Racing’s Raul Fernandez converted a strong weekend for Aprilia into victory at the 2026 British MotoGP, leading from the opening lap to claim the chequered flag at Silverstone on Sunday.

Fernandez was joined on the podium by Jorge Martin and fellow Aprilia rider Marco Bezzecchi, giving Aprilia a remarkable 1-2-3 finish in the main MotoGP race.

The result capped off a dominant weekend for the manufacturer, which had already secured pole position and victory in Saturday’s Sprint.

Fernandez Turns Sprint Disappointment Into Victory

Starting from the front row, Fernandez immediately made his move on pole-sitter Martin into Turn 1 and quickly established control of the race.

The Spaniard gradually extended his advantage to more than four seconds before managing the gap in the closing stages. He eventually crossed the finish line 2.54 seconds ahead of Martin to secure his second MotoGP victory.

It was also Fernandez’s first premier-class win since last year’s Australian Grand Prix, making the result even more significant after he crashed during Saturday’s Sprint.

“I am really happy for the team. Yesterday I was quite frustrated after my mistake. But we are human and it is part of the sport,” Fernandez said. 

Martin Recovers From Difficult Start  

While Fernandez made a perfect getaway, championship leader Jorge Martin endured a difficult opening lap. Martin’s ride-height device failed to disengage at Turn 1, forcing him to surrender several positions. The Aprilia rider dropped behind Marc Marquez and Bezzecchi before beginning his recovery.

Martin eventually reclaimed second place from Bezzecchi on Lap 9, but by then Fernandez had already built a significant advantage. Despite being unable to challenge for the victory, Martin’s second-place finish proved valuable in the championship battle. 

The result extended his championship lead to 31 points, while Bezzecchi’s third-place finish moved him into second in the standings. 

“I’m very happy. This is the kind of speed we were looking for, and I think today we came out of a period when we’d lost our way a little. The mistake in this race was my start. I didn’t get away well and, at Turn 1, I was too optimistic in trying to hold my position,” Martin said. 

Martin admitted that the ride-height device issue cost him valuable positions, but said the pace shown throughout the race gave him confidence heading into the next round. “The positive thing is that I can fight for the win, and that’s what gives me confidence,” he added.

Bezzecchi Returns to the Podium

Bezzecchi completed Aprilia’s podium sweep after a hard-fought battle with Gresini Racing’s Alex Marquez. The Italian faced consistent pressure from Marquez throughout the race, with the Gresini rider looking for an opportunity to take the final podium position.

However, a late mistake from Alex Marquez disrupted his challenge and allowed Bezzecchi to secure third place. The result marked Bezzecchi’s second podium of the Silverstone weekend, following his strong Sprint performance. More importantly, it was his first Sunday podium since winning his home Italian Grand Prix at the end of May.

“I wanted this result so badly that I couldn’t give up. Not after all the work the team has done and all the effort I put in over the summer break,” Bezzecchi said.

Difficult Sunday for Marc Marquez

Defending world champion Marc Marquez had another challenging race at Silverstone. Starting sixth on the grid, the Ducati rider finished seventh, failing to match the pace of the Aprilia machines at the front.

The result also saw Marquez drop to fourth in the championship standings, adding further pressure to his title defence.

Meanwhile, Ai Ogura suffered his first retirement of the season, costing him valuable points in the championship fight. The result leaves him 37 points behind Martin.

Aprilia Comes Out Swinging at Silverstone

The Silverstone weekend proved to be one of Aprilia’s strongest performances of the 2026 season. After taking pole position and winning Saturday’s Sprint, the manufacturer followed it up with a complete podium lockout in Sunday’s main race.

For Fernandez, it was the perfect response to his Sprint crash. For Bezzecchi, it was a return to the podium at a crucial stage of the championship. And for Martin, despite missing out on victory, the runner-up finish ensured he strengthened his position at the top of the standings.

The MotoGP championship now heads to Aragon on 30 August, with Martin holding a 31-point advantage. With Aprilia clearly finding its form at Silverstone, the big question is whether Martin can maintain his championship lead when the paddock arrives in Spain.
