MotoGP is set to welcome one of motorsport’s most outspoken figures as Guenther Steiner, former Haas F1 Team Principal, prepares to take the reins of Red Bull KTM Tech3. A consortium led by Steiner will acquire full ownership of the MotoGP and Moto3 outfit from 2026, marking the start of a new era for the long-serving French team.

Under the new structure, Steiner will assume the role of CEO, while Richard Coleman steps in as Team Principal. Tech3 founder Hervé Poncharal will continue leading the squad throughout the current season before transitioning to a consultant role in 2026, focusing on nurturing young talent and sharing his decades of MotoGP experience. The team will remain based in Bormes-les-Mimosas, France, continue competing as Tech3, and race with KTM machinery under existing agreements.

Steiner, whose career spans rallying, Formula 1, and senior roles at Jaguar and Red Bull Racing, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity. Tech3 is a great team with huge potential and an impressive legacy. Hervé’s impact on MotoGP cannot be overstated, and we’re honoured to take over and build on those foundations. We’re excited to join MotoGP and help bring the sport to new audiences.”

Coleman, bringing more than a decade of world championship motorsport experience, added: “We are approaching this project with humility but also with ambition. We’re here to compete at every level, with a real passion for the sport, and we want to connect with more fans while showing the best of MotoGP.”

Founded in 1990, Tech3 joined MotoGP’s premier class in 2001 after winning the 250cc world title the previous year. Since then, the team has secured 38 podiums and two Grand Prix victories, becoming a cornerstone of the grid.

Poncharal reflected on the handover: “This is the end of an era, but also the beginning of an exciting one. I’m proud of everything we’ve achieved, from winning races to building a strong legacy. When Guenther showed interest, it felt like the perfect moment for change. I know Tech3 will be in good hands to grow even more in this new era.”

The acquisition is backed by IKON Capital and represents Steiner’s long-term vision of evolving Tech3 from a successful racing team into a sports franchise, maintaining its racing pedigree while driving fan engagement as MotoGP continues to expand globally.

Dorna Sports’ Chief Sporting Officer, Carlos Ezpeleta, welcomed the move: “It’s a pleasure to welcome Guenther to MotoGP. Tech3’s legacy speaks for itself, and Hervé’s contribution has been immense. This new era builds on that foundation, and we’re excited to see what comes next. We thank Hervé for everything and extend a warm welcome to Guenther and Richard.”

With the deal finalised, Tech3 now looks toward the 2026 season, poised to begin a new chapter under Steiner’s leadership while preserving the spirit of one of MotoGP’s most enduring teams.
