Round 6 of the PETRONAS MAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship’s CP125 category at the PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit (South) delivered another heart-stopping contest, with Md Izam Ikmal Izamli of PETRONAS SPRINTA YAMAHA – CKJ RACING storming to his third consecutive victory after fending off a fierce last-lap battle.

The race began with Md Syamil Amsyar Md Iffende of PETRONAS SPRINTA YAMAHA – 31 RACING grabbing the holeshot and controlling the pace early on. But Izam wasted no time in applying pressure, slicing into the lead by the end of Lap 1, while Md Idlan Haqimi Raduan of ZYNERGYS HONDA KC RACING TEAM slotted into third.

The intensity rose when Syamil’s teammate, Md Farid Hakimi Farid Sezli, produced a stunning charge from ninth on the grid. By Lap 3, he was in podium contention after setting the fastest lap of the race at 1’23.982s. With Izam, Syamil, Farid, Idlan and Arash Tsunami Kamarudin of ATAS AHM MOTOR SPORTS forming a five-rider train at the front, fans were treated to constant lead changes and breathtaking slipstream battles.

By Lap 7, the duel between Izam and Syamil had reached boiling point, with the pair trading places corner after corner. In a tactical masterstroke, Izam bided his time and executed a decisive move in the final sector of the last lap. Holding his line perfectly, he edged across the finish in 10’50.980s, just 0.250s ahead of Syamil, while Idlan clinched third place in 10’51.310s.

“It was an incredibly intense race, with only five riders able to stay in the lead group ahead of the chasing pack,” said Izam. “I tried to think smart approaching the last corner. I knew I had a slight advantage in the last sector, so I waited for the perfect moment on the final lap. Alhamdulillah, the strategy worked again, just like it did last year and again this year. This win is a blessing for everyone who continues to support me.”

The photo finish behind Izam saw Farid and Arash complete the top five, all separated by less than a second in one of the closest races of the season.
