Round 3 of the PETRONAS MAM Malaysian Cub Prix 2025 delivered a thrilling spectacle in the CP150 category as Ahmad Afif Amran of PETRONAS SPRINTA YAMAHA – CKJ RACING executed a dramatic final-lap overtake to claim an unexpected victory at the LYL International Karting Circuit, Monkeys Canopy.
Earlier in the day, Kasma Daniel Kasmayudin of PETRONAS SPRINTA YAMAHA MAJU MOTOR set the tone during the Super Pole session, clocking the fastest lap at 1’09.717s to secure pole position. He was followed closely by Azroy Hakeem Anuar of HONDA ESTREMO YUZY RACING (1’09.954s) and Afif (1’10.252s), setting up a fierce front-row battle.
As the race got underway, Azroy took an aggressive lead into Turn 1, chased tightly by Kasma and Afif. The trio immediately broke away from the rest of the pack, creating a gap within the first few laps. However, the race took a dramatic turn on lap 7, when Kasma, who had overtaken Azroy earlier, was penalized with a Ride Through Penalty for a Jump Start, pushing him down to 23rd position after serving the penalty.

Azroy regained control at the front, with Afif and his teammate Ahmad Darwisy Ahmad Sahir hot on his heels. Despite the setback, Kasma mounted an impressive comeback, slicing through the field to reach 5th position by lap 10, even pressuring Md Akid Aziz for fourth.
But it was Afif who would ultimately steal the spotlight. Staying composed and consistent throughout the race, Afif made his move in the final lap, overtaking Azroy with a precise and calculated attack to cross the line in 18’48.052s, seizing a hard-fought and well-earned win.
“I honestly didn’t expect to win today,” said Afif after the race. “Kasma and Azroy were extremely fast all weekend. I just wanted to aim for a top-five finish or maybe a podium. But the bike felt great, and I stayed focused. When the opportunity came, I just went for it. Alhamdulillah, everything worked out.”
Azroy finished second with a time of 18’46.117s, while Darwisy completed the podium in 18’54.932s. Akid Aziz and a charging Kasma rounded out the top five.
